Are you saying an Oregon sports franchise has to overpay for free agents? Shock!

what Oregon does in NIL is pretty shrouded. I do know somebody who has peaked behind the shroud a little. He's told me that the Ducks are extremely disciplined in their NIL program and will not engage in bidding wars. (a rumored edict from Phil Knight). They gauge their needs, the talent of the target, the budget, and make an offer that's close to 'take-it-or-leave-it'. They'll add sweetener, but almost never add more than 10% on top of the initial position

and about Knight: I've been told he has been pretty reluctant to engage in NIL. He's been involved but he's opposed to any bidding wars. He still believes he gets more bang for his bucks by investing in infrastructure and facilities, plus some investments in academic schools like Oregon's sports marketing program

I've also been told he's still highly resentful of the Oregon Board of Higher Ed for stripping OHSU away from Oregon 50 years ago. As an alum who 'knows' the inside story on that, so am I

he's from Tennessee. The Ducks have lost a ton of recruiting battles because of distance + mothers (and girlfriends)

even if he does commit, with 9 months between now and NLI day, any commitment is soft, especially in the NIL age

Totally agree. And even if he signs he could still bail. They allow anybody to leave whenever they want now, just like that 5 star kid after he signed with us couple months ago. I don’t trust this age anymore until they play their first game.

I wonder if he’s still interested in the blazers or he doesn’t care anymore

Thanks Captain Obvious! Are there any other well known facts you could let us in on?

For those of us who enjoy following recruiting however flawed it may be, next weekend's Spring Game will have all sorts of top 2026 & 27 HS talent in attendance from all over the country and is typically followed by several commitments.

You've weighed in with this take before. That you don't like following recruiting and you can't trust kids today and so on. What I don't understand is why you take the time to come into whats largely a running recruiting thread to express this again and again if thats the case? Why not let those who enjoy following their team's recruiting just do their thing while you go participate in something you like and find worthwhile? Or is complaining what you enjoy doing?

You gotta wait till they play their first snap

Where do we talk about Ducks basketball?
Right here is fine. They got beat by 10 by Michigan state who was seeded #1 in the Bei Ten championship tournament. Trailed by ten at the half, pulled within 1 early in the second half but quickly went back to ten for Spartans and stayed that way. Got beat in every facet, rebounding, shooting, turnovers and get4ting to the line. When Shelsted's shot is off, which is in about half the games, they don't have much of a chance. Angel is good on O but bad on D. I think they should figure out how to use Barthelemy more. Evans is always a disappointment. just has a knack for making the wrong decision and for a guy so long and athletic, seems a little un-coordinated. This team is probably very frustrating for Altman.

Time for all of you to stop bitching about each other and focus on what an asshole I am.

Oregon loses a 4* DT verbal in 6-3 290 Tomuhini Topui, which sucks. What sucks even more is he's likely to stay home and go to USC who is said to be upping it's NIL budget considerably... see Jahkeem Stewart

On the brighter side, another of Oregon's 2026 4* DT verbals is Viliami Moala who just was recognized as the top DLineman at the recent Polynesian Bowl Camp at Bishop Gorman High School. He has transferred from Utah to Willamette HS in Eugene for his Senior season where he joins Oregon's other 4* DT Tony Cumberland who comes in at 6'5 285 lb... best of luck to Sheldon & South Eugene this year

I can't even imagine going against monsters like this in high school. I went to a small school in rural Minnesota and played center and middle linebacker at 150 pounds. I did OK blocking by just firing out really hard but a guy from another school, who got recruited by the Gophers, figured out the way to handle me was to Ole' me. :)

Elite 2026 OT Jackson Cantwell will be on an Official Visit in Eugene with both parents April 19-21. He and his father visited earlier, but mom is coming along this time. For those that don't know his story, both his parents were Olympians and Jackson hopes to be one too in the shot put. It sounds like he'll be deciding soon afterwords and really promising for the Ducks. Btw, nothing but beautiful Spring weather is forecast

Oh Dan... no.

The Game is a horrible book. That's the book that started the whole ridiculous "negging" thing and that dumbass pickup artist show.

He's talking about this book. I was given this book by my sister's boyfriend something like 20 years ago and I read it. I thought it was ridiculous. I also thought it was ridiculous that my sister's boyfriend would give me this stupid book.
