Sucks they aren’t continuing the streak, but what did either school do wrong?

? What did I miss? What did they do?

They are renewing it after next year. I think it is good for both of them.
They both get a non-conference team every year, where travel is limited.

Beaver fans don't like it because they think they will get killed every year, but I am not sure that will be true in the future.
If Bosie State can do it, so can the Beavs. Plus, the Beavs need to play non-conference games against top programs so they can get paid.

Just checked the rankings. Not sure how we can drop two spots when we pitched a shut out until we put in the 87th string and then they scored. If se had kept the starters in we would have had a shut out.

It makes no difference. If they lose to Penn State, they drop anyway, and if they beat Penn State, they jump back up into the top 4.

Hmm but if we had stayed at four and then beat penn state would we not move up further?
Maybe? Not taking #1 from Ohio State. Not sure they move past LSU either.
Right now they need to beat the Beavers and get ready to play a tough game at Penn State.

Remember Penn State has a Bi Week this week also.

Since they don't factor into who makes the playoffs or matter in any way really, curious why you care about the AP rankings?

100% ignorance. I didn't realize they didn't factor in. Or rather, I didn't know they weren't the only ranking that is used. I know little about NCAA rules in general in any sport. I didn't know the true rankings don't come out until later.
Ive only been watching Oregon from the start of the season cor the last couple years now. Until then I would wait and see how they are doing and then jump on the wagon mid to late season. Lol

Knowing this now, I'm positive I've likely misrepresented Oregons rAnking in the past when discussing it with individuals. Lol.

100%. Cannot look past the Beavs who are desperate for a win.

.

it's not good for Oregon. If they win big...no credit....if they struggle and win, they'll get punished; if they lose, it will derail a season

but more than that, it's dumb fucking scheduling compared to their top-10 peers. In a 6 year period, Oregon will have 3 road games against a G6 program. In the same 6 year period, Ohio State, Michigan, Alabama, Georgia, Miami & Clemson will play exactly 0 road games at G6 schools. Those athletic departments aren't dumb enough to schedule those games or have any home-and-home series with a G6 school

why waste a home-and-home?

Did they get punished last year when they struggled against Idaho? They were #1 in the country by late October.
As long as they are a top 4 team in the Big 10, they are more than likely getting into the playoffs. It might not be ideal playing oSU every year, but it's not going to hurt them. I think it is worth it to keep the rivalry going.

The Civil War should definitely continue no matter what. Never even question it.

the rivalry died when the Pac-12 died

again, for a P4 team to schedule a home-&-home with a G6 team is dumb scheduling. No elite P4 team will schedule those games in the future. Ohio State hasn't done it and doesn't in the future; same for Michigan, Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Miami, Clemson

the only one I can find is Penn St, playing at Temple in 2026, with Temple visiting in 2027. But it's only a 2-season series. There was a 10 year gap between the last time they played Temple and 2026

and you're absolutely wrong about the Ducks not being punished:

*They were ranked 3rd when they played Idaho with 1403 points; they dropped to 7th after that game with 1197 points, losing 206 points.

*After they squeaked by Boise St they dropped to 9th with 1077 points, losing another 120 points.

* they then clobbered OSU by 35 points, in Corvallis, and remained at 9th with 1093 points. So they beat Idaho and Boise St. in 'close' game, lose 336 points and drop from 3rd to 9th in the poll. They crush OSU and only gain 16 points in the polls

* the next week, the Ducks travel to another FBS school, UCLA, beat them 34-13, gain 123 points and move from 9th to 6th in the ranking. In other words, the Ducks actually got credit for beating a P4 team. And even though they were 3-0 against Idaho-Boise St-OSU, they got dinged

there is no upside in a home & home series with the beavers, only downside

Rankings don't really matter to me. Win enough to get to the playoffs and keep developing our young players. I believe in Lanning and what he is building. We will get there with him.
I agree. I think it's really important to get big leads so the backups get a chance to develop with real game experience. It seems to me the opportunity for playing time could also be a good selling point to recruits.

With the unfortunate end of the Pac12 & now being in their respective conferences, of course there is a huge gap in TV revenue giving Oregon a nearly insurmountable advantage. From UO's programs perspective continuing the rivalry will be an early season tuneup game to work out the kinks that doesn't involve flying across the country for away games while for Oregon State it will be a payday. For a while at least it's still going to be an occasion for the fanbases.

You seemed to have left out the part where they were #1 in the country by late October.
What a punishment those non-conference games turned out to be. Clearly, who they played in those September non-conference games made no difference.
