Helfrich didn't do anything his way after Chip Kelly. His entire approach, from the moment he was given the keys to this powerhouse operation to the instant in which he walked off a four-game winner, felt flat. Helfrich operated like a guy who was watching the neighbor's house while they were on vacation somewhere. He fed the dog. He turned the sprinklers on and off. He picked up the newspaper and mail. But he never made it his house.
The Ducks attempted to run the same offense, wear the same uniforms, practice the same way, but sometime last season it became apparent that everyone else hadn't just ripped them off, but was doing it better. Oregon looks less than ordinary.
