Oregon State has become a highly competitive program mostly due to recruiting "diamonds in the rough." But the Beavers have no problem occasionally picking up a diamond in the fairway.

Corvallis (Ore.) High School offensive lineman Isaac Seumalo, a member of the ESPNU 150, has verbally committed to play football at Oregon State.

It probably helped that the 6-foot-3, 280-pounder is the son of OSU defensive line coach Joe Seumalo.

He was also offered by Arizona State, Boise State, Oregon, Stanford, UCLA and Washington.

Oregon State has six commitments.

dang I thought we might be able to steal that kid away from you guys :) Looks like a good pickup. And I remember when he visited UO it seemed like he had a good head on his shoulders.

Yeah, he's highly thought of. In the camps he's been at the coaches have just raved about him. Looking forward to see him play at Reser! :)

Much rather see him go to UO, but I love that he stayed in state. Good pick up for the Beavs

I think the Beavers play better as the underdogs and end up doing better when the season progresses.
From 2006-9, a period most would call the best stretch in program history, Oregon State was picked to finish seventh (2006), fifth (2007), sixth (2008) and fourth (2009) in the Pac-10, according to the annual media poll. The Beavers went on to finish third, third, tied for second and tied for second, respectively. In short: no B.C.S. conference program played beyond its means more so than Oregon State, which might not have the talent but certainly has the coaching, it’s safe to say. So what happened in 2010? The Beavers were picked to finish third in the Pac-10, behind only Oregon and U.S.C., but ended up tied for fifth at 5-7, 4-5 in conference play. Perhaps O.S.U. began to believe the hype? I doubt it. But is it possible that the Beavers are more comfortable playing as the underdog? No question. And if that’s the case, O.S.U. might be in for a big year in 2011.
