I must say it's awesome to see him in this sort of agony after all the crap he talked about Oden and the Blazers over the past few years. Remember his ridiculously gloomy 41-41 scenario for the Blazers this season? And that was without the injuries.

Simple: we hate him because he is a "Oden is a Bust" flagbearer. Why? Because the Celtics wanted Oden when they tanked, and they got the 4th pick when we had a 6% chance of getting the #1 pick. He's never forgiven us for our good luck.

So he hates our luck, and bags on Oden, and we hate him for that. So whenever he looks like a fool, we like to celebrate his foolishness.

I really like Simmons. He is very entertaining and poses questions and provides answers that are unique in a very cookie cutter field of sports writing. He says some mega-bonehead things at times, but he almost never says anything without giving his reasoning. I would love to have more voices out there that were willing to honestly share their opinions without fear of looking like an idiot when you are proven wrong. And that is what he does. He predicts everything and provides his personal rationals.

As far as him being a Celt homer, bull shit. He is a Celt fan for sure, but he rags on his team all the time and is often more negative about Celtic players then people without an emotional tie. And he does not hide his fandom when giving his views, he lets everyone know that he is a fan and that may cloud his vision.

I personally have great hope for Oden and think if he can put together some healthy seasons than he will be one of the best in the game. But, all of that is conjecture. The only people not saying Oden is a bust are mostly Blazers fans, Blazers media, and the Blazers management with maybe a few national writers thrown in there, but even those are harder to find nowadays.

Simmons is harmless, pretty funny and sometimes very insightful when it comes to his observations of the league -- I actually believe for instance the T'Wolves should have hired him instead of David Kahn to be their GM; he couldn't have done any worse.

As a Blazer fan, I'll admit that I can't quite come to grips with labeling Oden a bust. Maybe my vision is clouded by what I still hope to see, but when I think about a player being a "bust", I tend to associate the label with guys like Olowokandi. If Oden never gets healthy enough to be the force he was projected to be, then obviously it'll be a lot harder to defend him.

I guess I can sort of understand why people are saying it now, but I'm just not ready to accept it yet.
