OT Chandler to Thunder

The Hornets now have no legitimate defender in the post ... they may squeak into the playoffs based on David West and Chris Paul's ability, but they are now a perennial one-and-done team until and unless they can get a legit center.

David West Agrees

West told the New Orleans Times that he was hoping his team would resist the trade interest in Chandler.

"I don't know if that's somebody we can afford to lose,'' West told the newspaper. "So I'm not sold on that idea. You just don't find a 7-foot-1 athlete like that and he's the only 7-footer we have. Especially if we're planning on making a run into the playoffs, we're going to need size to compete with Portland, San Antonio and the Lakers. I'm not sure that would help us.''

I'm gonna say steal of 09' trade deadline.

LOL.

We do have Oden, you know. Chandler is nothing to worry about.

They scared me before this trade. They have an excellent group of talent and a bad record with picks. They are formidable and will be for some time.

And, they aren't afraid of anyone. They seem unusually confident for their collective age.

Chandler has been a lot less productive this season than his previous two. I don't think it puts OKC to the next level, but it's an upgrade.

As for the Hornets, they seem content to be a 2nd-tier team due to salary constraints.

I think you average all his remaining salary figures for each remaining year of the contract, and that becomes his trade value for whatever team is taking him on.

Ex for random player: 4 mil one year, 6 mil next year, 7 mil next year, 11 mil final year. Averages out to 7 mil, that would be the player's salary figure (per year) for trade purposes.

I could very well be wrong though.

You're right, good job

edit: FYI this would make CP3's trade value at $13,654,746 (thats including his player option year, I assume I should include that?)

If a team trades an extended rookie between the date his extension is signed and the date it takes effect, his "trade value" for the receiving team is the average of the salaries in the last year of the scale contract and each year of the extension. This is called the poison pill provision. The sending team uses the player's actual salary when calculating their outgoing salary. They use the current-year maximum salary in place of the (unknown) maximum salary for a future season, if necessary.

thunder will never be elite because they wont be able to attract players or keep players. OKC is the arm pit of the NBA..Durant is bolting when he can.

Chandler strikes me as a player who is a product of the system. I'd like to see just how good he does without CP3 spoon feeding him lobs. I love the fact our backup center is better then him too :)

Actually, given Tyson's diminished production this year (a result of his injury issues, I think) - I am not surprised to see that both teams are worse this year. OKC has to hope that he returns to his last 2 years production next year - which is iffy if you think that playing next to CP3 was the main reason for his better play...

They have control over Durant, Green, and Westbrook for at least 2 years (Westbrook 3) after this, plus they're all restricted free agents once the rookie deals are over, and at worst they sign the one year tender. If OKC progresses like we all think they will, they'll probably be an upper-seed playoff team before those three are completely free to walk, and I'm not sure that they'll just ditch OKC because its a shithole when the Thunder will be an elite team by then.

Throw in that OKC has a much smaller metro area than any other NBA city outside of Salt Lake, and you have a team that will struggle to be able to pay these young players when their rookie deals expire, and Chandler also expires in two seasons.

OKC an elite team in two years? Wow, I just don't see it.

The guys (currently) with the most remaining years left on their contract are Westbrook, DJ White, and Kyle Weaver, all with three. Point being, as of right now, OKC has zero long term commitments, and will make zero long term to commitments to players not named Durant, Green, or Westbrook.

I'm not saying that OKC's pocket book will be overflowing, but I don't forsee any real trouble paying these guys given the abscene of any long, bad, expensive deals.

ESPN has a picture of Chandler and Joe Smith at the top of their page. Shouldn't it be a pic of
Chandler and a big dollar sign?:lol:

Imagine when they draft James Harden or Blake Griffin (and move Durant/Green to the 2/3). That will be a scary combination, because you know they'll have a high lottery pick this year.

Green is a SF/PF, and if they somehow end up with the first overall pick I'm guessing they'd just trade Green and try to get a somewhat veteran 2 guard ... or maybe move Westbrook to the 2 and draft Rubio instead.

Whatever happens, if they get Griffin or Rubio they are going to be a fucking handful.

anyone else think that Green would be the perfect SF for the Blazers?

I'm hoping that this deal sparks other trades to be finalized/announced.

if we get wallace or butler..... and oden devleops.....

we will be an elite team.

butler and wallace solve sooooo many issues on our team

Decent trade for NOLA because he wasn't giving them too much this year... around 8ppg and 7rpg and they are saving money... Decent trade for OKC... Chandler won't be all that good without Paul... i'm expecting him to be an 8 and 8 player in OKC... but it is an upgrade at the Center spot... now they have to decide between Harden and Griffon for their team... either a SG and have Green at PF or a PF and have Green at the 2/3 w/ Durant... I still want Green!

This is good news for the Blazers. I don't worry about OKC at all, but I think NOLA got a little worse because they are better than us when fully healthy w/ Chandler, West and Paul... now they really don't have any post defense for a Center. If we can pull off a Butler/Wallace trade, I think we are solidly in the 4-5 spot depending on what Houston does (I think they will also slide which puts us at the 4)... I can't wait... My GOD! I hope we can make a trade. KP needs to understand we really have a good chance to get to the 2nd round here and get some experience. Wallace is still 26!!!! He is good for now and the future and we can consolidate by gettin' rid of Outlaw/Webs and definitely Sergio to clear up room for JerryD.

Get 'er done KP!

This move has to be pretty demoralizing to Paul and West. You work so hard, day in, day out, to compete, and then your owners just sell away a critical asset to save money. Especially for West, who isn't a defensive force and really benefited from having a guy covering his back.

As a coach, how do you motivate your guys to go out there and compete when ownership has just declared it's all about the money?

This helps the Byron Scott as Lakers coach after Phil retires theory :ghoti:

If I were Paul I'd demand a trade to Portland.

barfo

Why was that post crazy? OKC does seem to have built a young and talented starting lineup. They'll still have a top draft pick and some cash under the cap to add some more to it. While they're no lock for the playoffs next year (since Green and Westbrook may need more than this season to get to a high enough level), they certainly could make the playoffs next year.

Durant is a franchise player. Westbrook seems like a potential secondary star. Green and Chandler are good complimentary pieces. Great foundation, really.
