OT:D'Antoni to Knicks

I guess Mark Jackson will have to look elsewhere for a head coaching position. Daily News had him on track as the new Knicks coach all along but the Suns getting trounced in playoffs changed all that.

I'm not sure if the Knicks hired Jesus they would be able to make playoffs next year. D'Antoni has the Augean stables to clean.

Chicago would have been a much better choice, in my opinion. They have some semblance of team chemistry, discipline (minus Ty) and will to win there. I'd also prefer Avery for the Knicks.

hmm...not a great fit Zach Randolph and Eddy Curry really don't fit into the offense that D'Antoni will want to run and they still lack a true PG, but Crawford, Richardson, Chandler and Balkman fit into the type of system D'Antoni will run along with Lee. The guy who could turn into an asset if healthy will be Jared Jeffries who could turn into a Boris Diaw type player on the team.

Yeah, who knows though. Maybe D'Antoni will change his mindset to go along with the "assets" he has.

IMO Lee and Crawford will be the guys to look for when D'Antoni come in. And also, don't forget Nate. He's a quick player, he's pretty good on the fast break (of course, we know his decision making skills are...questionable).

I'm also wondering about Mardy Collins - I mean, I've seen a couple games from him before. One game, he was off. Another, he barely got minutes. Another, he scored 20-something (28 maybe?) and showed some potential to be a good player. But, who knows. Maybe he'll break out under D'Antoni.

First of all, this ain't off topic. Neither is Andre Igoudala's contract situation. The conference and division are going to become more competitive.

D'Antoni brings instant credibility to the Knicks. They have the money to spend.

There's some potential there if you ignore the salaries...although I also think some players are way overrated, like Nate Robinson and to a lesser degree, David Lee. Anyone who relies on Nate Robinson is as crazy as he is. He is uncoachable. Lee can rebound and bring great athleticism to bear, but he cannot shoot and his defense is lacklustre. He is Josh Boone without the defense. There are better ways to deal with Mardy Collins and Jared Jeffries, as well as Wilson Chandler. What that team lacks is leadership.

The Knicks are at least a year away from being decent. Isiah was terrible because of his GM skills - he's actually not THAT bad of a coach. D'Antoni is really good, but even he can't do that much without a real point guard and with the rest of his roster tied down by Curry and Randolph. He'll make them better, but his skill tends to be in getting motivated players to play efficiently (at least on offense). The Knicks are just a swamp of unmotivated players right now.

The Sixers - they scare me.

Boston will be good for the next 3-4 years, Toronto and Philadelphia have extremely bright futures...the Knicks don't scare me as much but they do have talent on there roster...

Bottomline is it's the perfect time to rebuild.

Don't the Knicks have some expiring contracts, and they'll have a top 5 pick to work with. A Derrick Rose can be big for that team.

Time will tell...if they commit to rebuilding then 3 years from now they could once again be a good team.

Mike and the Knicks probably met on three important points: Firstly the money, 2nd the kid they're gonna draft at 5 or higher, and 3rd the promise that Walsh will work his magic to get rid of the garbage contracts on their roster.

D'Antoni is spurned and he's just out to prove he's a good coach and show that he made the Suns what they are. He gets to hand pick a potential cornerstone in this draft and saw this as his best opportunity to do so. Say what you will about Chicago being a better fit, anything less than a second round playoff exit would be looked at as a failure. He's going to the one team with the lowest expectations and the biggest payoff if he does turn that ship around.

We can joke about the talent on the Knicks all we want but there were plenty of nights they were in games they had no business being in off of sheer effort alone so there is a base to grow from.
