<{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Well, they are unlikely to miss the playoffs, but their pick could certainly be in the #20-#22 range. As a Net fan, I'd be quite happy with the #11, #22, and #41 picks. Best-case scenario is probably #9, #20, and #39.
[If Dallas DOES miss the playoffs, then the Nets get unprotected picks in 2009 and 2011. Unless Dirk has a torn MCL, it's probably unlikely that the Mavs would miss the playoffs two years in a row.]
There are a LOT of options with those picks. Not just in terms of what players to select in those slots, but they are valuable enough to combine or to combine with players. The Nets need to sit down and decide what the team should look like.</div>
The Mavs may be rebuilding soon. Dirk is 30, Kidd is 35 (today), Dampier is 33, Terry is 30, Stackhouse is 33. Only four Mavs will be under 30 at season's end: Josh Howard (28), Antoine Wright (24), Jose Barea (23), and Brandon Bass (22).
As Donnie Nelson said at the signing of Devin Harris, Harris, Diop, Ager and Howard represent the "future cornerstone of the franchise".
Uh oh.

So true. The only bright spot was Harris Diop and Howard all young players who came up in big moments but the Mavs trade for Jason Kidd will go down as one of their worst moves since not resigning Steve Nash.
The Mavs will soon realize their problem is Dirk and by the time they try to move him they will not be able to get any value for him.
I said this after the trade and will say it come playoff time. The Mavs just bought their own tombstone with the Kidd trade.
The Lakers will only get better and are still young. The Jazz are mental tougher than the Mavs.
As someone said I can see Jason turning in to Gary Payton a veteran PG going from team to team trying to search for that ring.
