OT: Duncan officially retires

There was chatter on the day he decided to exercise his option that wether he would play or not was still up in the air. Then it was kind of a little louder chatter on the 4th.

So glad he's not doing a Tim Duncan appreciation tour final season but that's obviously not the kind of person he is.

Legend.

Pau/Aldridge/Leonard/Green/Parker with Pop as coach will probably still win 60 games.

I can't say sad day. He had a phenomenal career, he played and acted with talent and class. He is a sure first ballot hall of famer. He made a ton of money. His team won a ton of titles. Best of luck to Duncan in his future career, whatever it may be.
Professional D&D player.

Made the playoffs 19 times in 19 years. That alone is an amazing career. Other than the lockout shortened 1998-99 season when they went 37-13 (equivalent to 61-21) and won the championship, the Spurs never won less than 50 games during Duncan's career. Hell, they even won 50 during the 66-game lockout shortened 2011-12 season.

Still, it was time to go. He was still reasonably solid, in limited minutes, during the regular season, but looked pretty bad in the playoffs (5.9 ppg, 4.8 rpg, PER = 11.6). I didn't want to see him go out like Willie Mays. I'm glad I got to witness his entire career and that he chose to hang up his sneakers at the right time.

Kobe was the best of his era.

Best Jordan impersonator, that is.

Duncan is either the best player, or second-best to LeBron James, of the post-Jordan era. A decade ago, I used to think it was close between Duncan and Karl Malone for best power forward ever, but Duncan just kept being great. Definite top-ten player of all-time.

My youth is fading away. It's so weird to see guys that came into the league after you started following basketball, now start to retire.

I started to feel old when players entered the league who were younger than I was. Starting with Moses Malone.

See ya Tim...happy retirement! You earned it....

That said Blazers chances for the 2 spot in the west just got better...

You got the millennium digit wrong. Being a man, you're no good with numbers...heh heh..

You KNOW you're old when you see the children of players you watched now playing professionally.
You know you're old when you saw Elvis perform on Ed Sullivan for the first time on a black and white TV with rabbit ears
