Rudy would have been great at this!

Slamball (basketball with trampolines) or maybe pool basketball should be added to the festivities.

It will be funto watch, but this could backfire. The game could go for a long time.

Been there, done that. ;)

That commercial was so cool back in the day!

seriously, I can destroy y'all at horse. I mastered this shot where I stand at halfcourt and shoot backwards...with a scoop shot...i used to be able to hit like 30% of them...pretty crazy. You just have to throw it perfectly straight and not look at the hoop.

Didn't HORSE used to be part of the ASG?

Check out this HORSE with Pistol Pete

Heh, that reminds me of the version they did in Canada and Scandinavia:

Rudy would be kick-ass in that contest! He does this shot in shoot around where he bounces the ball from the wing off of the shot clock above the backboard right into the hoop!

I loved Maravich. He was one talented basketball player.

hahaha at Maravich schooling people in some converted parking lot outside with dim lighting. Sweet.

Great video. George Gervin looked like he was 15 years-old in it.

That's exactly what I was thinking about when I saw this thread.

Which current NBA player do you guys reckon would be great at HORSE?

It depends. Long distance shooters are always a threat in HORSE because of their skill. Then, you have the circus shot guys. I could also see Rudy being a decent HORSE player, LeBron James could do some freakish shots w/out dunking, and a creative guy like Steve Nash would be fun to watch.

Regardless of who would be good, never, and I mean NEVER, bring back 2-ball or whatever that stupid thing was called. Half of the reason the dunk contests back then sucked was because all of the air was taken out of the atmosphere watching WNBA players shoot set shots prior to the dunk show.

Non-dunk HORSE, I think that Manu, Kobe, Fernandez, Nash, and a bunch of others could all bring something fresh to the game.

No Rudy here.

Nobody has been announced for HORSE.

TNT today announced the addition of the popular basketball shot-making game H-O-R-S-E to its programming lineup during its four days of NBA All-Star 2009 coverage from February 12-15, in Phoenix, Arizona. The H-O-R-S-E game will air live during TNT's two-hour Inside the NBA presented by Hyundai (5 - 7 p.m. ET) on Saturday, February 14. Participants for the event will be announced at a later date.

A quick question for those who have played a lot of HORSE growing up, like I did. I am left-handed, and typically shots were "switched" in any game I played, meaning if I shot a right-handed lay-up, my right-handed opponent would shoot a left-handed lay-up, and so forth. Baseline shots from the literal corner were also "switched" because the backboard became on obstacle for one of the players.

Did anybody play differently when playing left-handers? I wonder because a few times people would insist I shoot with my right hand if they made a right-handed shot.

Fuck lefty's! You have to make the shot the same way it was made!

Ugh... next they're going to play '500' at the probowl.

They should be focusing their energy on how to improve the dunk contest. Or they need to have a 'Street-ball' game with NBA players.

This makes a lot more sense than the Skills Challenge and the Shooting Stars Competition. Does anyone actually care about those? Maybe some people won't care about HORSE, but I bet there would be more takers for it than those other two. I think a rule should be "no dunking" because (1) Not everyone has the natural athleticism to hang, and (2) They already have a dunk contest.

bring back the legends game!!!!!!!!!! it used to really suck but wouldnt it be great to see some of the greats from the 80s like mj, larry, clyde, magic, zeke, nique, chuck, wow! imagine the ratings that game would get. in the 70s they had a 1 on 1 tournament, i think petrie won it once. i always thought they should bring something like that back to all star weekend could you imagine kobe vs lebron. in the summer of 95 shaq and hakeem were supposed to have a 1 on 1 game. i think it was sponsored by pepsi and was going to be pay per view but for some reason it never happened. anyway the all star events have really sucked recently, the rookie game usually has better dunks than the dunk contest and the other stuff is pretty much forgetable. doesnt the wnba have its own all star game? why... never mind i know why.

NBA to change H-O-R-S-E game to G-E-I-C-O game

Sports are often made for TV. And TV is made for advertisers.

So it shouldn't surprise — especially as all sports are scrambling to find new places to hang "for sale" signs given the current economy — that the NBA's first H-O-R-S-E contest won't use those letters.

As that contest joins dunking and three-point shooting contests as part of TNT's NBA All-Star Weekend coverage, the as-yet unnamed three contestants — who'll be overseen by an NBA ref — will play G-E-I-C-O. As in the insurance company that will be the event's unavoidable sponsor.

:sigh::crazy::smiley-shrug:
