OT: I love the Olympics

Welcome to our community

There are too many lame events in the olympics. They need to get rid of some of the lame events like handball and bring in baseball/softball, MMA, and skateboarding.

MMA... and skateboarding... maybe monster truck racing too?

When will gymnastics be over? I'm sick and tired of it!!!! and they always show it at night (primetime).

Ping pong, trampoline and badminton should be added to the list...or maybe they keep them and add foosball, slip-n-slide and croquet so that we capture a more diverse selection yard/rec room activities.

Croquet was once an olympic sport, no joke.

Really? Wow. So maybe slip-n-slide has a chance. I think I could be really, really good at that and I am willing to represent our country in that sport.

Looks like it's been a big medal day for the U.S. today...I'm pretty sure the total has gone up approx. 10.

Australia is going to get smashed by you guys.

Players to watch for Australia.

Patty
Ingles - has been Australia's most consistent player
Dellevedova - Has spent most of the time running the point
Baynes - Has shown a lot of improvent in this tournement

You may hear Australian coach (Spurs Ast) Brett Brown at timeouts telling players you're Manu, you're Duncan, etc; as Australia run Spurs plays.

Not nearly as bad as I thought it would be.

Kept it pretty respectable until the end.

At least it's better than figure skating. Or synchronized "swimming". Face it: they market the Olympics programming largely for women.

Can we give the horses the medals instead of the riders/trainers in the equestrian events?

Also, why the hell was baseball removed? I can understand why (American) football is not included, but baseball is a global game. I never got that one. Did it really have that much to do with doping in the MLB?

I'd also like to see Olympic Rugby.

Gymnastics is very popular. The events that are popular in the US get US prime time television, which is why you don't see a lot of soccer (football to everyone else) or judo but you see gymnastics, diving, track and field, men's basketball. It's ratings and ads. The name of the real game is money. Funny, I haven't seen gymnastics, must not be on when I watch, which is not much since my TV time is normally 5-7 when there isn't anything.

Lol -- I just noticed that 18 of China's medals are in the three events I made fun of earlier: trampoline, ping pong and badminton. Guess that means we're probably stuck with those stupid "sports" because China won't want to give up a cheap and easy boost to their medal count.

Boxing is in the olympics, and MMA is now more popular than boxing.
Snowboarding is in the winter olympics.

the problem is skateboarding, (just like most winter sports) is that it's subjective. homefield advantage plays a big part.

Gymnastics isnt? Judges determine the outcome. Same w/ Boxing, syncronized swimming, etc.

Looks like local runner Nick Symmonds finished 5th in the 800 today -- bummer, I was hoping he'd get a medal. Just found out that he was a chem major --- that's one bad ass science geek.
