OT: Iavaroni Fired

Iavaroni got off easy, Miles didn't even verbally abuse him with racial slurs.

I just saw they hired Lionel Hollins with Mo Cheeks as his assistant. I hope Hollins has a better run than some in his past, but he has as a tough situation.

Mo Cheeks reunited with Darius? This Chris Wallace just continues to look like a sheer genius in the NBA with every day and his approval of hires.

Seems like Avery Johnson turned down a five-year deal to coach the Grizzlies. Good for Avery! Don't get stuck being a loser for your coaching career. Let some other desperate guy looking for a coaching job handle it and work with Chris Wallace.

Avery Johnson has turned down the chance to make a swift return to an NBA bench with the Memphis Grizzlies.

NBA coaching sources told ESPN.com on Friday that the former Dallas Mavericks coach was offered a five-year contract by the Grizzlies to replace Marc Iavaroni, who was fired late Thursday after 1½ seasons in Memphis.

Johnson, though, elected to pass on an in-season comeback, preferring to remain in his role as a first-year studio analyst for ESPN.

"I've said all along [that] at the right time and in the right situation, I will coach again," Johnson said Friday. "I am enjoying my time at ESPN and with my family. I think an awful lot of [Grizzlies owner] Michael Heisley and [general manager] Chris Wallace. I wish the Grizzlies the very best."

Although I think he meant Chris Wallace was awful, rather than he thinks an awful lot of him.
If Memphis can't even lure a good coach, what makes them believe they can attract top-tier FAs with their cap space? hahahaha... your plan is blowing up in your face Chris. On to plan Z.

Ha! The truth comes out. Since Michael Heisley can't make money off what his team does on the court. So, he's looking for other marketing opportunities. Come soon, the new season of Survivor - Memphis! Who will be the next to be voted off the team, and who will be the ultimate Survivor?

There's a rumor that Chris Wallace wanted us to trade him Travis Outlaw, and threatened to sign Darius Miles if we didn't do it. Furthermore, there's a rumor that there is a phone recording of the threat.

Crow would become an endangered species if this is true.........and I'd enjoy every last second of it.

:innocent:

I've read both Darius and Mo quotes indicating that they've more then put DM's temper tantrum behind them... they claim they've had dinner together multiple times since.

If they've buried the hatchet, then good for both of them. I just wouldn't want the two of them on my team if I could help it.

good for you. I've never met Mo or observed him interact with guys at practice over time, so I'm kind of in a poor vantage to judge him (or anyone really) as a coach. For Miles... I'm not sure I would much care who the peripheral guys to my rotation were as long as they brought it in practice and didn't detract from the focus of the guys who do play.

Well I guess what I meant was I wouldn't want both of them together on my team, even if they resolved their issues. Miles just isn't that good of a player anyway.
And Mo, I think results speak for themselves without needing to observe him everyday in practice. He's a great players' coach, great guy off the court, but not the greatest X's and O's coach and was simply outcoached many times while in Portland and Philly which is partly why he is not employed.
I'm sure he's got a lot to offer as maybe an assistant, but as a head coach? I don't know if he'll be given another opportunity.

Nash was in Philly for our game and sat and had dinner with us at the arena. The funny thing is, he is actually a really cool guy.

Aside from his lack of ability to evaluate talent, I never thought Nash was the real problem -- he sure did look like the fall guy for Patterson when he got canned.

Has Nash's personality ever been questioned? He always seemed nice enough to me (mob boss look aside), taking the time to respond to emails and all. Too bad was a poor judge of talent and agonizingly passive when it came to trades.

Patterson, on the other hand, was just a grade-A douchebag.
