Maybe, but maybe it's better for them to do that and take the money and sign somebody else. I do not believe I am alone in my thoughts that the Atlanta team as is, has pretty much done what it can do in the season/playoffs. Does anybody honestly believe Atlanta will contend with him? The only way I see Atlanta contending, is when they decide that Josh Smith isn't a power forward, they move Horford over to PF, and go get a real center. Until then, they have no shot. Fail=Fail.
who is "somebody else"? The realistic players they can get won't measure up to Joe Johnson IMO.
They can't just arbitrarily blow the team up when they are a competitive team in the eastern conference. Losing Joe Johnson, who is their franchise player will really send the franchise into a tailspin. They are better to make the other moves with Smith/Horford than to lose JJ.
