I legitimately think the Blazers have a better coach than the Lakers now.

Mike Brown is a horrible coach. I dare say I agree Nate might be a better coach than him.......Might be

Another 2000+ shot season for Kobe, I reckon.

Get him on your fantasy team now.

From the article:

Various Lakers, including Kobe Bryant, Derek Fisher and Luke Walton, have publicly endorsed Shaw to be the next coach, in part because of his familiarity with their person.

"We really don't consult the players on these matters," Buss said. "Obviously, we have to select somebody who has a reputation that players would be happy with. But to ask a direct player to select a particular coach, that's general manager territory."

Bingo!

I strongly suspect that Kobe's fingerprints are all over this hire. We know Brown doesn't mind bending over for his "star", whereas Adelman might actually (gasp!) act like a coach.

I think Brown will not have to worry about appeasing Kobe, in Cleveland the whole organization was frozen in terror that they may lose LBJ when he becomes a free agent, so everybody ran in a panic trying to do whatever they could to immediately help him.

Kobe is locked up long term for massive dollars, the team can use him however they want in whatever manner gives them the best chance of success.

Also, with Kobe's mileage and injuries I don't think he wants a coach sucking up to him or giving him 25 shots a night, he would welcome some teammates carrying more of the offensive load so Kobe can be more rested entering the playoffs.

Bad move by the Lakers.

Which makes me happy :)

Ed O.

whoah I was thinking Larry Brown when I clicked this... dang I should have applied.

I love it when my opponent goes all in with 7 deuce offsuit.

Don't the Lakers know that a guy who hasn't coached in the NBA Finals in 20 years was available?

Not a very inspiring hire, IMO.

At First glance I thought the thread titled was:

LOL LA to Hire Mike Brown as Head Coach

..don't feel soo bad about Blazers MGMT now

He is going to get eaten up by the fans, media, and eventually the players...at least Ill probably get a fat bump up the line in the wait for season tix...fuck me...

I'm interested to see what Mike Brown can do with more than one elite player. People are acting like him not winning a title with LeBron and a bunch of mediocre role players is a strike against him. I think coaching one of those teams to the NBA Finals is a rather incredible achievement. The only one superstar NBA title team that I can think of in the past 20 years is the first Houston title team. Of course, that was the first year of not having Jordan, so even that title is a bit suspect, IMO.

Mike Brown is only 41 years-old, he's never lost a playoff series, he's never missed the playoffs, and he's made an NBA Finals. I wish the Blazers had a coach with that record.

Browns an overrated coach. I think he's better suited for Lenscrafters commercials.

Huh? If he's never lost a playoff series, how come he doesn't have rings?

I meant first-round playoffs series. My apologies, ProfessorSpeed. I'm sure you could have deduced that information from reading the rest of the post, or by checking out Brown's coaching record, but I do thank you for pointing out an obvious error.
