OT LMAO Rockets, Bosh going back to Miami

Morey can take his moneyball and shove it up his ass. Dude has no idea how to build a team. Real life basketball isn't like fantasy basketball, numbnuts

This makes me happy, but I'm not so sure Houston got worse this offseason. Getting rid of Lin for nothing is a positive. He's a big time black hole on an already selfish team. Asik would be a loss if he had any role on the team, which he didn't with the arrival of Dwight. The only real change is the roster got a lot more expensive if they match Parsons.

I'm not a fan of Lin or anything but as a bench man he was putting up 13/4/3 basically, that's decent production. Asik is the best backup center in the NBA since Marcin Gortat was in Orlando.

the new bob whittset of the new CBA

I love what Morey did. Just because it didn't work out doesn't mean it wasn't smart to try. In the end, Bosh grinfucked them. That's not on the GM, that's on the player and the agent.

Lin got his numbers, but he was often playing with the starters and was devastating to the production of the other four guys on the floor no matter what the lineup. Best way to beat Houston was to encourage Lin to take over, because Harden sure as well isn't going to hurt you off the ball. Asik sat for much of the season because he no longer fit the team. It doesn't matter how good someone was if you didn't use him.

You love that Morey destroyed their bench and got nothing in return? Let's not pretend like Bosh ever promised to play for Houston. He seemed pretty non-committal to me. They wagered everything that he would go to the Rockets if LeBron left Miami, and they were completely wrong. That's definitely on the GM. He gambled big and lost. The move he made with Parsons was especially stupid. He declined the option on Parsons, making him a free agent during one of the worst possible times to have a RFA. There were so many teams with cap space this summer, it was almost guaranteed that Parsons would get a big contact offer.

Now, if the Rockets match, they will have upwards of 60 million tied up in just Harden, Howard, and Parsons. They won't have any cap space for a while.

Not to speak for maxiep, but personally I love that he went for it. He took a shot at building something special and nearly pulled it off. I prefer the high risk/high reward mentality when it comes to team building.

I think safe consolidation moves have their place, but this was his final chance to add a big piece. There will be plenty of off-seasons to come for Houston to be in the Blazers' position: capped out and looking for small benefits at the margins.

I agree with you. He had a plan and he went after it and it didn't work out. It was still a good plan and he still has his core players. He did not get rid of one starter unless he decides not to match for Parsons. The set back for the Houston is only temporary. It was worth the risk.

A stupid plan is when a GM rolls the dice that can set you back 3-4 years by trading their best players for unproven talent.
Morey did not do that. You can recover quicker when you are just replacing mediocre players. Especially when you are in a city that attracts FA's.

Agreed. You can't blame Morey for this anymore than you can blame Olshey for Hawes. IMHO, Bosh is an idiot....but that's his choice. He would rather party in Miami than win in Houston.

Yeah, Bosh is a total moron for picking up that 5th guaranteed year for around $25M that Miami could offer him, but Houston couldn't.

I should be so lucky as to be so stupid.

I like that. He isn't stupid, he just has no professional pride and doesn't care about losing.

That's even more insulting!

A quote from BBS.

I seriously blame lillard for this free agency. Getting knocked out by the champs sounds so much better than getting knocked out in the first.

hahaha. That shot is still affecting them 2 months later. Love. It.

Or, maybe he's viewing this as a chance to become the main star on a winning team instead of riding other guy's jocks the way he has playing 3rd fiddle for the last 3 years. Winning isn't necessarily a pride-building thing if the perception is that you're a minor wheel in a larger machine.

It's kindof funny that he got knocked for leaving a losing team (the Raptors) and joining a team where he ended up going to four straight Finals and winning two of them. And now he gets knocked for choosing not to jump to a loaded team.

Basically, sports fans just want to blast athletes, pretty much regardless of what they do. The narrative can be adjusted to fit reality. ;)

I hope the Blazers don't make this mistake next year: renouncing half our team for the off chance that Gasol will sign with us would be crazy. Better to use this as a developmental year and try to make a trade, next summer. Maybe trade for Brook Lopez.

Tis a fair point. For the record, I never ripped Bosh for wanting out of Toronto. His role there was largely to put up empty stats, with no real hope or expectation of team success. He sacrificed personal stats for winning.

He can retire knowing he won more championships than guys that will probably be considered better than him. IE. Malone, Barkley, etc.

Seems pretty good to me.

If I am Houston I match Parsons and then use my 2 8 million dollar trade exceptions to get new bench pieces. Or I just sign some one year contracts, like add Boozer after he gets amnestied from Chicago etc. Then I take my money next summer and offer it to LA.

No sales tax, Harden, Beverly and Howard that seems like a good enough reason for him to at least consider going.

No defense for the Parsons deal though you keep him for cheap and then next summer they could have signed LA and then resigned Parsons. At least they broke even on draft picks getting one for Asik and giving one up with Lin.

Problem with your plan...Parsons, Harden, and Howard add up to over 50 million dollars. Unless the Rockets can convince LA to take $10 million a year they're shit out of luck.

The Houston Rockets have agreed to a four-year, $32 million deal with Trevor Ariza, @USATODAYsports has learned.

would they sign him (at 8 million) to be the backup?

Parsons is a Mav, then. No Lin, no Asik, and Ariza for Parsons. What a failure of a summer for Houston. Lost their bench, and at best overpaid by $7m for a SF to replace Parsons, who could have still been on his rookie 2nd-round deal.

They can still match Parsons and just decide to play Small Ball.
