That adds him to the rookie of the year race. I wish Oden can play like that. Perhaps the Lakers should have held on to him.

He played a golden state team that is devoid of bigs, and Biedrins was in foul trouble for much of the time Gasol was out there.

So...? 27 and 16 is HUGE no matter who he played. Those are Dwight Howard numbers.

Oden can play better than that. I look forward to Greg Oden's first outing against Marc Gasol. Andres Biedrins put up 16 points and 22 boards against him.

One game does not make him a R.O.Y. If he keeps it up and he's averaging 16/10 by February then you can make a case. The "race" hasn't even started yet.

Biedrins is a freak on the boards, he is like a quicker Joel. But I really hope Oden has just one night this year of 27pts and 16rebs.

One game does not automatically put him in the ROY race.

I never implied that he is now in the ROY race, and I don't think he is or will be. I was just replying to your under appreciation of his accomplishment.

What makes those numbers even more impressive is this guy can't jump over a sheet of paper.

I watched the entire game and Gasol had no problem rebounding or scoring on Biedrins when he was in the game. Gasol is going to be good, maybe as good as his brother.

He had 12, 12, & 2 in his first game too. So he is definitely the early leader.

Mike Rice said tonight that he thought that Batum would end up in the top 4 for ROY, I think on Courtside.

He would have been the Bulls pick in that draft if the Lakers didn't nab him one pick before (Bulls took Aaron Gray as their center 2nd round pick, not bad, but not Gasol).

He's an interesting prospect, and has the potential to be a very good center in this league.

Doubtful. Batum isn't that good.

It'll probably come down to Rose, Beasley, Fernandez, and Gasol.

If the Bulls move Gordon back into the starting lineup, and Ginobili starts for the Spurs, there could be a situation that arises like Gordon in 2005, where he loses out on the ROY, but Fernandez wins the 6th man of the year.

Gasol looked good. He is poised and he's old for a rookie... but he's a darn good-looking player (if not a good-looking man). It's not crazy to consider him in the RotY race.

Unfortunately, I'm playing against him this week in fantasy basketball. Dammit.

Another good-looking rookie? Jason Thompson, from Sacramento. The guy played center in college but he handles the ball on the break astoundingly well. His team got blown out tonight, but both he and Hawes look pretty good for the Kings' future.

You counting out Oden completely?

Why? I'm curious.

He has no offensive skills, will be out of shape for a big chunk of the year and not play in other parts of the year. He will also probably be inconsistent. And not Derrick Rose inconsistent, like Rose having a bad game tonight of being 14 points on 7-16 shooting. His bad games will be him basically doing nothing on the court.

He's just not on par with some of these other players, and has a long way to go to catch up to them.

Watching Marc, he moves/runs exactly like Sabonis...... the Portland version. It's eerie actually.

I love how you talk about Rose like he's some established superstar.

Oden in his prime >>> Rose in his prime. Book it.

Let the Oden doubters have their say. The next few weeks might be the last chance they ever get. :)

I wouldn't be surprised if Gasol was a contender for ROY. He plays on a bad team, which means there will be opportunities to score. His backup is Darko, so Gasol will get as much run as he can. He won't put up huge numbers, but if its close to a double double then he'll definitely be a top five rookie of the year. At that point it often comes down to health. If Beasley or Mayo or Rose or Oden miss considerable time, hit the rookie wall, or just plain struggle, then Gasol may be a surprise. Like Rudy, he has professional seasoning and seems to hit his free throws.

Yeah, I was Jason Thompson skeptic, until I've watched him play a couple games. He's has a lot more fluidity to his game than from what I first saw against Portland in the preseason. Hawes on the other hand is starting to get 3 point range which is a scary though because he has some of the best post moves of a 7 footer in the league. Kings future looks bright with those two and Martin, they just need more capable scorers right now.
