You don’t need to believe. It helps to believe but that’s not required. There are 613 mitzvots (commandments) that the most adherent Jews try to follow such as the kosher laws you mentioned. But even the most adherent don’t need to believe, just to act in accordance. There are many rabbinical debates on this topic and all don’t agree, but this is the most prevalent view. As I’ve heard it explained, it’s about what you do, not what you think.

The questions brought up in this thread such as yours and religion vs. ethnicity are excellent questions with many different answers depending on who responds.

I bet he did cry every day because he threw away his life. He's done in the NBA. Dude pissed away a golden ticket. Instead of working on his game, the dude was trying to become a streamer. Totally stupid.

Read the story. He gives a shit. Totally Stupid? Yes. Did he beat his wife or sexually abuse someone? No. At what point do we say his punishment has been in order and he has paid a deep enough price?

He could surprise and make a come back which imo, he should be able too. Someone will pick him up at minimum next season.

He's taken ownership of his mistake and is speaking and apologizing at Jewish centers. I give him props for that.

Actually he had no choice in the matter....it's like getting props for making your appointments with your probation officer....he didn't call himself out for this...he got busted blaring racist bs and I find it really hard to believe he didn't know what it meant....if that's cancel culture I'm all in. He should be apologizing to Jewish people for his racist taunting but that doesn't mean he should get his job back...my two cents. I think if anything he sent a message to the gaming community that language has consequences.

This is a false statement.....it's happened in the military, the entertainment industry and the private sector all our lives....cancel culture is just the new catch phrase for liberal activism concerning civil rights ..these things have always gone on in the world and America is no different. I grew up in a world filled with racial slurs and gay slurs, etc.....now it's being held accountable and is not the time to bury it with.."ah shucks, he didn't really mean it"...he's just a dumb white kid~racism absolutely needs to get cancelled

So you think he meant it as a racist comment and didn't care?
Im not sure, I dont know his heart, but if he is a racist like he's been labeled then there should be things in his past and or present, that will confirm it?

I don't know Meyers..but I have listened to young people saying horrible things while playing video games when my son's friends would visit and play games....I called them out on it regularly..."gay" was the go to slur....if that's me cancelling culture...I call it parenting instead.
In the Navy I heard every racial slur know to man being tossed about....doesn't make it a "new" thing that's just popped up in culture. I have zero sympathy for the guy and hope he learned his lesson about the consequences of racial slurs. I can't believe he's still a topic on the Blazer site at this point

I know people have been careless and crude with words, for years and I to have stood up for ones that do it. I once walked out of a LV improv because most on stage were disrespectful, crude and throwing out racist comments like it was their brand. Both white and black. I dont personally think Leonard is a racist.

Off to one of my granddaughters HS graduation.
 
Isn't Meyers a Jewish name? Or is it Myers? There's something fishy here and I smell the Mossad at work.
