A little birdie said new Wolves President David Kahn has absolutely no interest in trading top draft pick Ricky Rubio, 18, who has committed to play in Spain two more seasons. And especially not to the New York Knicks, who have nothing reasonable to offer in exchange.

This is something everybody knew except David Hahn and the rest of the NYC media. NY sports media is out of touch with reality but at least they keep everyone entertained! :devilwink:

It's summertime. They have to write about something.

The NY media has the most lopsided homer proposals all year long. Totally unrealistic expectations, as if other teams are gonna go out of their way to give the Knicks one-sided deals.

Newsday is saying NY will try again for Rubio.

I'm sure Minnesota are just salivating at the prospect of obtaining Lee/Robinson (players they have absolutely no need for) and the rest of their craptacular talent.

It's like Charlie Brown and the football. Just give it up, Walsh.

Chad Ford chimes in:

Sources close to the situation say that despite the public posturing on both sides, Rubio really wanted to play in the NBA -- just not for the Wolves. His agent, Dan Fegan, had been working behind the scenes since the draft to broker a trade, but Kahn believed he could talk Rubio into playing in Minnesota.

At the center of the storm was Kahn's decision to draft Flynn one spot behind Rubio in the draft. Rubio's circle took the move as a lack of confidence in his abilities and was determined from draft night to either force a trade or stay in Spain. The drawn-out discussions were more of a negotiation tactic until he could either work out a trade with an NBA team or a deal with another team in Spain. When forced to choose between the Wolves and Spain after Kahn worked out a buyout, Rubio chose Spain.

With Rubio out of the picture and Flynn left as the only point guard on the team, the Wolves had to do something. Sessions was the best free-agent point guard on the board. The Wolves knew that at this point in the free-agent process, he would come cheap.

The team signed Sessions to a four-year deal, with a player option after the third year. That's a pretty clear sign that they believe it will be closer to three years before Rubio comes to the league, if he comes to the Wolves at all.

I don't think anyone from the media said that acquiring Rubio was realistic. Walsh is only doing his job as a GM and seeing who is available. Considering that Minnesota drafted two PGs with high lottery picks and then signed another young PG to a 4-year deal, it might suggest that one of them is available.

In addition, so far Kahn's moves have been questionable at best, therefore what may appear "lopsided" to you might not to Kahn.

Lastly, Rubio is rumored to want to play for the Knicks and not for the Wolves. If such is the case, again, it's a good move by Walsh to see if he can swoop in and get Rubio for less.
