OT: Omer Asik asks Rockets to trade him......Let the rumors begin... (1 Viewer)

Why? Historically Asik is a more mobile pick and roll defender and a better rebounder and both are pretty limited offensively.

I think Lopez is limited on offense as a back to the basket sort of player. You don't throw the ball in and have him go to work by any means. But he seems, at least off of the eye test, to be competent on that end of the floor overall. Asik's never struck me that way.

I'm new to this board so still learning who everyone is.

First of all, SuperDad, I could watch that GIF all day long. Such great memories.

I like Asik but at that contract, I'm tempted to stay with Lopez if he continues his recent reincarnation of Joel with more offense. He spoke glowingly about how quickly this team is developing chemistry and although I don't expect them to play at the pace they are currently, they are looking better than I projected early on.

Given the early returns, I'm guessing NeO will sit back and watch how things develop at least until the deadline.

I think you might be right that the margin between Lopez and Asik isn't so wide that Olshey should look to make a swap right now. I do wonder if RoLo is going to regress to the mean closer to the deadline and if that would spur any movement.

Regress to which mean, exactly?

He's not really bettering career numbers by any means. He's just getting opportunity and minutes.

to be clear, that's per/36 numbers above

I think he's really hurting his own cause. Bulls would resign him because he wanted to start. He'd have only cost the $5M the first two seasons, but $15M the third. He's not getting $15M for multiple years.

I think he's fools gold. He is very one dimensional, and his only real strength is his size.

He didn't help the Rockets much as starter last season, and certainly has the skills only to back up Howard. But neither C makes FTs, so their hack-a-Shaq targets with the game on the line.

I think Chemistry is the most overlooked thing in all of Basketball. Players who click with each other on the court can make up for lack of skill and talent with their ability to complament the other players on the court. When you ignore chemistry to go with skill then you end up like Sacromento, its why organizations like the Spurs do so well finding people to fit their system time and time again. Not only do you have to have a certain set of skills to crack the rotation with the spurs but you also have to fit in with that team.
Thats why i'd rather stick with Lopez, at least for the moment, instead of trying to add Asik. Asik is the better defender but Lopez and LA are clicking and look like they have a great understanding of each others game that will just get better as time goes on. We have no clue with Asik and LA would fit well together and if they don't then its a downgrade from Lopez to Asik.

The Blazers don't really have any motive to try to swap for Asik. Perhaps in the offseason it was a nice idea, but seeing how we're all ready through training camp, pre-season and 8 games into the actual season this idea should be put to rest. Lopez has had the time in the system, he's on a reasonable contract, he's well liked from a teammate and PR standpoint, it just doesn't make any sense. Olshey might be inclined to move Lopez if there was a way to bring in a real difference-making Center, which I don't think Asik is. It's debatable that he'd be an upgrade over Robin, but not so much that you want to inherit his bloated contract and potentially give away OTHER assets along with Lopez.

Rhal...completely agreed about the chemistry thing.

Denny Crane...loved SuperDad's GIF, love the 'Schultz' and there is just not enough 'Denny Crane'. What a great character.

Limited compared to how many real centers these days? He is really surprising me with how good his hook shot is. It may be a little flat, but at least he has one. Why they all can't shot it I never have understood. But since he is tall, he really only needs that one shot with his back to the basket. And he does it with both hands!

Maybe he will regress like some have alluded to, but hell maybe he will continue to get better on offense.

My only complaint with Robin is I would prefer that some of the rebounds he tries to tip back in.....he should just grab instead. Then dunk it.

No idea. I just report the news.

Yeah, sorry, did't mean to direct it AT you, more just yelling out loud.

As for picks, I can see Charlotte potentially giving up either our pick or the Detroit pick for him. Start him and Jefferson, Biyombo and Zeller off the bench.

That's not a bad trade partner for them.

I think NOP is a good spot, though, too. That seems like it could happen.

I think that that Anderson-Asik deal has been beaten to death.
And, seems like NOP wants to make sure that Davis has space to operate, without Asik being a lumbering cog in the middle of the paint.

Fair point.

But I think the Anderson - Asik deal just seems like the best fit for both teams, regardless. But yeah, NOP probably shouldn't do it. I mean, Davis is straight beasting.

who's going to give them a lotto pick. Just don't see it.

Who is going to give them an impact player, either, when Asik isn't even getting minutes for Houston?

They also want to protect him and his health. They have to weigh playing him a ton at C with Anderson opening up the floor or playing him predominantly at PF with a lumbering C.

They'd have a pretty damn stout defensive front court with AD/Asik.

The question is Lopz\Aldridge combo better then Aldridge\Asik combo?

Still not sold on Robin Lopez being better than Asik. Its a major stretch.

Give me LMA/Asik.

They'll never be a LMA/Asik since Houston will only take LMA. It's really that simple.
