No April Fool's this time. Does this kill their title chances?

Who will replace him in the lineup?

They have Howard and Jones to start at the 5 and 4 and have Josh Smith and Joey Dorsey to back up the 4, but this leaves them with no real back up center.

A championship is ours for the taking!!!

On a side note, this quote from the article caught my eye:

"Motiejunas, 24, averaged 12 points and 5.9 rebounds in 71 games, 62 as a starter. Motiejunas has been the Rockets’ most reliable low-post scorer, making 50.4 percent of his shots this season, but also made 36.4 percent of his 3s. Only Motiejunas and Kevin Durant have made at least 50 percent of their shots and 36 percent of their 3-pointers while taking at least 100 of each."

Meyers Leonard is close to joining that select group. He's 63-108 (.583) on 2FG and 41-85 (.432) on 3FG. Even if he misses his next five 3-pointers, he's be at .410 3FG%. The kid can shoot!

This definitely hurts them. I thought Jones was out with injury as well? They've played Harden pretty big minutes all season so we'll see who has more in the tank come playoff time.

Jones was back for about a month, and playing well, then went down again for about a week and has been back in their starting line up since 4/1.

To me Meyers may be the most improved player in the league or at least in the west..for a bench player at least.

Too bad Meyers won't get consideration for MIP. He simply hasn't played enough minutes. MIP almost never goes to a bench player. In fact, it rarely goes to a player who averages less than 30 MPG.

I think Jimmy Butler is probably a lock to win MIP this year. His scoring is up by over 50% and he's averaging career highs in pretty much everything. He's gone from a defensive stopper and roll player to the leading scorer on a top 3 seed team.

Crazy that Meyers is closer to the 60/45/90 club than the 50/40/90 club.

His overall FG% is closer to 50 (.512). He shoots .583 from 2-point range, but takes almost as many 3-pointers as 2-pointers. So, that brings is overall FG% down.

But yeah, still very impressive. The kid is a good shooter, and never forces up a bad shot.

His TS% is .638. Is that good? ;)

Rockets will figure this out. Thats our luck damn it.

Haha, Rockets luck is probably only slightly better than the Blazers.

This one hurts a lot because Dmo was the only other guy on the team that could consistently create his own shot. He was our 3rd best player I feel in terms of consistency.

Well if rockets advance further than us in the playoffs I will be very pissed.

I'll be keeping an eye on what Houston does in the playoffs and of course what we will do.

Again I WILL BE PISSED IF THEY ADVANCE FURTHER THAN US.

Yeah, the Rockets certainly know what it's like to have a team derailed by injuries. But considering we handed you Drexler on a silver platter, you get no sympathy.

You guys have had it worse with Sam Bowie and Greg Oden, then Roy. This year with Wes. Our luck wasn't that bad until after we traded Hakeem.

I don't know about Blazer fans but every game but I watch Rockets games a bit traumatized. I know all it takes is one wrong turn or fall for a player like Harden and oops, it's all over. Sucks for Dmo, would have been his first year playing big minutes in the playoffs.

I do not see this being a major factor in how far they advance. Everyone shortens their rotation in the playoffs. Losing your back up center is never good, but we are talking about 15 minutes a game they need to do without. It will depend on the match up. Smith and Jones would have gotten the PF minutes regardless. So like I said.....who backs up Howard? I think they will be just fine playing small ball for those minutes. Papanikolaou may play more.....

It's not like they lost Wes.

And Walton... He was never fully healthy as a Blazer. He played 35, 51, 65 and 58 games in his four seasons here and was basically done less than a year after we won our one, and only, championship.

Oh, what could have been...

The real problem isn't so much who backs up Dwight, the big problem is if Dwight goes down. He's been very injury prone the last four years. He's only 29, but started playing as a full time starter at the age of 18 and logged a LOT of minutes his first 7 years in the league. He has a lot of wear and tear on his body and his injuries (bad back and bad knee) could flare up at any time. Forcing him to play heavy minutes because they don't have another center on the roster could come back to bite them.

Motiejunas did a more than capable job filling in when Howard was out. He was having a bit of a break out year. I'm actually surprised it took him this long. I remember watching him in summer league before his rookie season and he looked very polished for a young big man. In any case, he will be missed, even more so if Dwight goes down.
