Wouldn't it be awesome if we had Oden, Roy and Aldridge there then? More than anything, it'd mean our guys were finally so rock-solid healthy that it was a no-brainer to send them out to compete. Extremely doubtful that'd happen, but it's late August and a Blazer fan can dream....
If those three could rock the Olympic team, they'd become so popular and marketable nationally that Stern's mafia would have to give them some calls on the court. Right? Hey, a Blazers fan can dream....

lol. It certainly couldn't hurt. Although I'm not sure I noticed a "superstar bump" from past players who made the team. I mean, as far as the refs go.

It did seem like Wade, Mello, Bosh and LeBron all significantly benefited from playing on those teams in terms of their own mindset. Playing next to guys like Kobe really seemed to drive home to them what it takes to be the best in the game.

Of course, in hindsight I wonder if Cleveland and Toronto fans kind of wish they'd stayed out of USA Basketball.

hmmm.

Stay away Oden! Stay far away!

I think Rondo is the product of a great situation. Yes he still has to get it done on the court and he has, but when the big 3 first came together he was left wide open for 90 straight games. He was very lucky to fall into that position.... NOT a fan of his. By the way, he actually is a worse shooter then our Dre Miller!

Interesting that his stats get better when KG or Pierce or Allen are injured.

I'm sure because he's shooting more. Don't get me wrong, he has had some amazing games in the past couple years, but when the big 3 are gone, you'll see he is NOT an upper tier player.

The team won't be as good, but he will always be an upper tier player. Unless you don't think Jason Kidd had an upper tier career, because that's basically who I think he is.

No no no no no no no...... Maybe a 38 year old Kidd.

What's your beef with Rondo, HCP? It's pretty weak to say "he'll look worse when the 'Big 3' are gone", because you've got nothing to go on now. He's a 23 year old Jason Kidd. (38 year old Kidd had developed a three point shot, for one thing, and only an idiot could say that Rondo was slow or unathletic.)
Methinks you need some remindin'...

That's just the playoffs, FAMS. When the Bulls hit the playoffs, suddenly Joakim Noah is top Bull.

Yes - become total assholes! As this Summer has proved, lesson learned.

I doubt that. He's arguably the best player on that team right now (since Garnett has declined, though he is arguably still better). I think Rondo is on the short list with Deron Williams for second-best point guard in the NBA behind Chris Paul (both way, way behind Chris Paul).

How many players in history have averaged 17,10 and 10 over 14 playoff games?

Probably a bunch. Basketball has been played for a lot of years.

LOL.

Oscar Robertson, Wilt Chamberlain, Magic Johnson, Fat Lever and Jason Kidd are the only players to do it over one series. I'm not even sure if they did it for 14 straight games. Can't find that.

I'm pretty sure Kidd did. In the first round against Raptors, and then in second round against Cavs.

lmao what a bullshit stat. Rose shoots a lot more (almost twice as much) with those possessions, while Rondo is doing his job as a PG.
rose shooting more is relevant how? rondo turns the ball over more. and his(rose) "job as a pg" is a lot different when he's also the best scorer on the team. rondo has 3 guys i'd want scoring over him, so of course he's going to be taking less shots.

Despite everything thats been discussed here, this year should be the pin on the board for these two players. The Celtics team, albeit older, is hungry and ready for one last run with their young all star PG; on the flipside, Chicago finally has a legit low-post scorer (Noah was a garbage man, if anything) to run the pick-and-roll with Rose along with shooters that'll hit shots.

I'd like to see this debate between Rose and Rondo discussed after this year. It'll be interesting, and pardon my inner homer, but I can envision this year being Rose's transition year from a high-scoring PG, to a Chris Paul-meets-Dwyane Wade PG.

Maybe the coaches valued a point guard who can hit a free throw at a %50 clip?

Right now, Rondo's better. When the Bulls play the Celtics, it's one hell of a match up though.

A lot more of Rose's possessions end with a FGA, whereas Rondo tries to create offense for other players. If you miss a pass, it's a TO. If you miss a shot, it's not.

82games.com shows rondo and rose with the exact same assist to passing to ratio.

I'm with this.

Rocketeer we usually are on the same page but I don't understand your use of statistics. There's literally none that support Rose over Rondo, trying to use tangible evidence in favor of Rose is futile.

Now how they are doing in FIBA is different, and insignificant to me. I only care about the NBA for the most part.

Rondo has higher PER, and Rose is still just a below average scorer, efficiency wise.

Using the more sophisticated Usage-efficiency tradeoff, it is a bit closer but Rondo always seems to have an edge in all barometers.

i wasn't comparing them statistically overall, just pointing out 44thrilla being wrong in that one specific case he mentioned.
