PACERS WILL MATCH ROY HIBBERT

Even better news.

David Aldridge:

That would be better if we don't have to tie up our cap space with someone we have zero chance of signing. I wonder why Indy would prefer signing him outright? Perhaps they want to take care of other free agents first then sign him on the 16th or something…

It means they can structure the contract on their terms instead of matching a front loaded or toxic contract the blazers would probably offer

Re: PACERS WILL NOT "MATCH" HIBBERT

They're going to try to get him to sign their offer instead of ours.... which will no doubt be a toxic offer with a bunch of money up front.

They said same terms though - so its the exact same thing...

They're doing the Blazers a favor by not tying up their cap space.

Unless you are conspiracy lovers and you think that KP is just telling people they will give him the same amount so Portland goes after someone else instead, and then Hibbert is stuck taking what the Pacers actually do offer him.........

If Pacers sign Hibbert w/o offer sheet, can tack on non-guaranteed 5th year and time signing to use rest of cap space first.

So basically his trip to Portland was a giant waste of his time?

What if Plan B is to try to trade for Noah? Now they're overpaying for Asik, they might be happy to trade Noah for Leonard, Freeland and picks.

But you were late to the table. The Hibbert thread was back to the top with the updated news.

Not all of us want to wade through a massive thread to see news that is thread-worthy.

Thanks for posting this, Draco. I only have 5 minutes at the site right now and I would have missed it otherwise.

Awesome. As I said, I was just giving him shit.

But if it had been posted in that thread, that thread would be the top or second to top thread.

This is new news. I also appreciate the new thread.

I haven't seen anywhere that says Hibbert will sign Indy's offer sheet instead of Portland's. Which is interesting. If he signs Portland's, it tells me he wants to be in Portland because he's limiting Indy's timeframe to add additional FA's (and I'd imagine he still ends up Indy). If he goes with Indy's offer, he wants to be there.

There goes that plan.

Here comes Leonard Meyers.
Who is Leonard Meyers?

I like Noah's heart and hustle, but he just looks like someone who will continually have nagging injuries. Will his body hold up? I know you can say that about anyone, but he just looks fragile to me.

If the Hibbert/Batum plan falls through, which it likely will, my Plan B is to go young, and add another lottery pick next year. May as well trade Batum for Williams and a pick while we're at it -- I'm ok either way.

Jason Quick: So Blazers will go trade route to get center who can start, but who doesn't need to hog all of the developmental playing time of M. Leonard

Jason Quick: Possible C targets (cheap, capable and not long term): Pachulia, Patterson, Maxiell ($5 mil); Mozgov ($3.1 mil) and Pekovic ($4.3 mil)
