I say we implant PapaG with a user activated device that shocks his anus anytime he offends anyone.

There should not be a policy regarding PMs. Everybody should assume that anything they type on this site can and will eventually make it's way into the public eye. It is your responsibility to know put things on the internet you don't want others to see. There are no guarantees and certainly this site can't guarantee high security.

In short, I think the policy should be "use at your own risk".

I say if someone posts your PM publicly, Denny should give you your money back that you paid to be on this site.

I agree. It's too hard to police. If a message board is anything like real life, sad fact is that if you tell someone a secret there's no guarantee it won't get out. There's no confidential relationship in sending someone a PM. Let's not act like there is.

No, that was PDXKass.... your other hussy on the side.

Well, that was supposed to be a reference about her. But no, I felt she was fake from the beginning and had a few posts about the few schmucks tripping all over themselves for "her".

Out of context, this would make MM's blood pressure go through the roof...

Out of context or not, I think just seeing it once made his BP go through the roof. He then saw it a second time because you quoted it.....

Somebody better check on MM.

This is how I operate. That being said, I also don't post people's PM's on the board.

I have been secretly forwarding all your PM's to the NSA.

I'd like to solicit opinions about PMs and privacy. This thread started with one poster posting a PM he received from another.

Current site policy, though maybe not written anywhere, is that you are free to use PMs without fear that anyone on the staff will access and read them. There are reasonable exceptions to this, like if the recipient asks us to, if I have to debug the site software, or if we are served a search warrant.

I admit I have seen others' PMs, but only in the case they were reported to me by the recipient as spam.

That said, we've not really had to deal with the issue of privacy between sender and recipient. That is, should PapaG have reasonable expectations that his PMs would not be made public! Or is the PM in essence owned by Further and it is his right to post it?

My inclination is the latter - caveat sender. However, posting the sender's private/personal info received in a PM (or that PM in its entirety), would not be allowed.

In the spirit of openness and we run this site together, I seek your feedback.

Thanks.

When I sent that PM to Papag and he posted it, I was fine with that. I had no expectations that he would keep it to himself. I would have thought he would more likely pass it to a mod, but I was not at all surprised he posted it.

Another issue is, I insulted him via PM. It is not permitted to insult in a thread, I felt those rules did not exist in private communications but some have suggested that such speech is not permitted anywhere including PMs. I would like to know policy on that.

Personal Insults in PMs are only allowed on Tuesdays.

The reality is that until now, nobody's posted a PM like this. That is good indication that people do treat the privacy aspect with respect.

In fact, it seems the PMs posted to start this thread were intended to be made public.

FWIW

The pm that started this thing was NOT meant to go public, but it also didn't surprise me when it did.

You guys HAVE to tell us his new name on here? Has he been posting?

You're giving papaG sexual satisfaction with this attention

hoop fam

PapaG just PMd me the following:

Dear Resident:*The time we spent together, however long it was, meant the world to me. I would love to see you again, but unfortunately I cannot. You see, I... am a ghost. I can only materialize once every decade, on the anniversary of my death. I chose to spend my one day among the living with you, sweet Resident. Perhaps we will meet again in another decade, provided you keep your figure. Until then, all my love from the beyond.

Barney

No, he hasn't been posting. Only PM'ing. If he wants people to let you know what moniker he is using he can tell you.

When he starts posting, this oughta be fun. Every time this happens, I love the back-and-forth when posters figure it out, and the new poster denies it for months. The claims are then made about every new poster.

Or Fez freaks out and accuses them of being a Timberwolf troll who only wants to post penis pictures.
