Wow. PapaG was on the crazy pills. My skin is thin, but not that thin. No way was that a a slam on his family.
 
We have banned... what..... 3? 4? People in the time that our community has been on this board. I don't count the timbertrolls because they weren't part of our community. So basically three or four people in five years?

We expect people to lose their cool, especially on the OT forum, and we will let a lot slide..... but only so much. It's one thing to get pissed and call someone an asshole, or call them an idiot, but to use personal information that they've shared at one point or another as a way to attack them is just completely unacceptable. This wasn't just in the OT section. It was on the main Blazers forum, it was on the Duck forum, and it was in the OT forum.

Sometimes we miss stuff. Sometimes we let things slide. SPD generally gets most things, but we try to leave people alone unless things really get out of hand. That's when we will step in. This forum doesn't have many rules, and the one rule we do have is pretty loosely enforced, but when one person consistently breaks that rule, ignores warnings, and will not respond to pleas to be more civil, we finally decided to remove him.
 
Hopefully things cool down in time, and he can come back, and we all have some decent discussion. I've never personally run into any confrontation with PapaG and have enjoyed his thoughts on things I'm interested in (Blazers, Ducks, Timbers, and World Soccer).

But I tend to stay away from most OT stuff, and thats where most stuff seems to get heated.

We all have bad days/time periods in our life, sometimes things set us off that normally wouldnt. I'm sure I've rubbed some people the wrong way here too. But I'm glad to have this place to come back to and BS in.

I can think of two people in the last five years who have been perma-banned (aside from PapaG): Ben Davis and Mixum. I'm not trying to start an argument, I'm genuinely curious if there have been more that I've forgotten.

It's not a person, it's the forum. Mixum, Ben and Papa shook things up, and have all been banned. Mixum took more heat from others than he ever dealt, and none of them were banned or suspended because people didn't like Mixum.

Shook things up? If that's how you choose to describe it, that's your call, but there's "having a differing opinion" and then there's "personally attacking people every day and causing drama just to cause drama."
 
Chiming in on the crandc vs PapaG distinction:

I have to agree that crandc's personal insults seem to go unedited. While some people will make the case that that is double standard and it's a liberal conspiracy to keep everyone PC and THANKS OBAMA, etc, I think it's just the pragmatic issue of having one OT mod and a whole lot of text to go through.

PapaG's personal insults are laid bare for all to see, while crandc's are usually buried in a wall of text that most people skim over and miss.

It was mean of me to say what I did in the Private Message, but I felt he had crossed the line with his insults in the forum. But I would not attack someones kids. That's despicable. And to be fair, he did not accuse me of that until he had already been banned. He signed back in with a new name papag2 and posted that, I think as a way to get at me. He was just in full melt down. And I got pretty pissed by the lie, but now, a day later, I understand he was just blowing his top. I would be fine, personally, if after a month minimum, he was allowed to join back. But I would expect him to completely follow the rules with me, or even just ignore me altogether.

How did he attack your kids? I never read anything publicly that supports that accusation.

He said I said is kids should suffer. I never even mentioned his kids, I never mentioned him as a father, I never mentioned anything remotely on that topic. I posted a bit back word for word, every single PM I sent him.




And to DLJ, you are not allowed to insult in a thread, I sent papag one single insulting PM, as in Private Message. That is permitted. You may insult me in a PM. I have sent exactly 1 insulting PM ever, and that was the one that papag posted.
