OK, I think this issue is over, now lets talk about what's not happening right now with the blazers. No new news on Batum, No new news on Lillard. Interesting right, I mean, I always hear the phrase "no news is good news" This must mean the Blazers are going to be awesome this year.

Being the predictions game guy, I almost feel like I need to start a predictions game on who the next person is to be banned.

I'm sad to see PapaG go but at the same time, I also like to have a place that is, at least relatively, civil. I think nearly everyone loses it a bit now and again and that is understandable. However, when "losing it" becomes the norm rather than the exception, I agree that some action needs to be taken to, hopefully, increase the civility level in the forum.

I appreciate the works the mods do and am just glad I am not one of them - not something I would want to do.

Hmmm ... Speaking as somebody who has occasionally found himself arguing from the minority position, I can honestly say I've never felt like there has been an administrative agenda to silence the board's iconoclasts; more often the masses just tend to "shout" these opinions down.

As for the people that have been banned, I don't think it's any great secret that all had well documented outbursts of anti-social behavior and "excess" personal attacks - posting habits that were frequently nothing but disruptive and usually in bad faith. Personally I've never called for anybody to be banned, but the few that have been kicked out probably earned it after being given multiple warnings to rein themselves in.

I do agree that there is sort of a "hive mind" mentality around here at times that sees counterpoints and opposite views as an "evil" that must be stamped out, but I just don't see that as the situation in this case.

For the record, I will be the first to admit every time a mod felt the need to intervene and threaten me with suspension/expulsion, I pretty much deserved it. That being said, I completely disagree with the idea of banning someone just because they're insulting.

There's really nobody else who has even been remotely on our radar. Kingspeed got a warning for constantly bumping old threads, but that was over a year ago. HCP got a few warnings for getting into it with Mixum, but that was more than a year ago. I'd ban Sly, but I don't think I can

We also banned OdenIsGod, then I went and unbanned him because he owed me Blazers tickets from a bet he lost and by being nice to him I was hoping he would finally pay up, he then proceeded to meltdown again so I banned him again and he never paid up on the bet.

Ironically, that kind of mirrors Blazer fans' relationship with Oden himself.

Wow, you are ALL taking this way too seriously. A poster on a website got banned. Big fucking deal.. It's not like he provided any essential services or some shit, he was no genius. He was by far the most confrontational poster here, if you disagreed with anything he said he would not hesitate to start hurling out the personal attacks. He broke the rules every day he posted. I had a couple minor spats with him, but I never cared enough for them to turn into these huge ordeals. I really don't understand why so many of you are so invested in this "drama".

There's "insulting" and then there's "cancerous." I think most of us have, at one time or another, been insulting to another person on the forum. There have been a select few people though, who have really been disruptive, cancerous, and (imo) overly insulting. Telling someone they're stupid is technically a "personal attack," but making comments about their personal life, family, etc is what goes over the line. We have put up with it for a long time, we have given warnings, we've tried pleading, we've tried suspensions.... none of it worked. I'm not a fan of just editing or deleting because I don't think it solves anything. In fact, in most cases it only spurned him on more.

I don't think you've ever been threatened with suspension/expulsion here. At least not since I've been a mod.

Here is why I'm so against personal insults, it kills forums. It really does. After you insult someone there is no where left to go but for that person to insult you back. And that leads to more insults and more insults...

Maxie, you and I go back to Oregonlive. Have you been there lately? All who is left is Cup and Jet trading insults. Bring up bitter battles of insults from years past.

When you attack someone's post (which that's what you do, you don't attack people) you are inviting them to defend their opinion or idea. It's a debate, an argument, a conversation but it's fun.

hey, its all good, and truly of little importance now, although I struggled with wanting to confront you about it when you said it. The reason I ignored it is that it was so out of character. That is why it stands out.
