I was told by a mod that passive aggressive snark is the preferred accepted form of communication here…
but yet when i try to be better and conform to this ridiculous assertion of accepted behavior, ive lost my privileges to post in the thread where i was given this advise.
Im completely confused. Is this Behavior only accepted by some, but not others?
How is it i can follow this advise from a mod but then lose posting privileges when im just conforming to the advise provided???
I was told Snark is good.
Why am i not able to be good? Be better??? Why was my privilege taken away for simply following the advise of an all knowing intellectually superior person??
OB
Snark doesn't make a good pet. It does not do well in driving conversation. Minstrel was annoyed with yours and Hoopgurus assertion that trans people should be branched into their own class in sports competition. That by the way is discrimination, so it's not a viable concept. Do I think you or Hoop had Ill intentions in putting that thought forth no.
Minstrel, in his vexation took the easy path of sarcasm. He was critical, dismissive, and employed mockery. Could he have handled it differently sure. Could he have tried to communicate more openly with you, of course. Could he have tried for conversation, you bet.
It appears he was as offended at your assertion as you were with his response. You both replied accordingly. I can see how you felt you were being condescended to.
Open conversation is and will always be the best form of communication. There are places for sarcasm and cynicism. They are important parts of rhetoric.
Mods are also posters here. Like anyone else here we have opinions and ideas. Like everyone else here, we aren't always right. We too are in danger of making asses of ourselves.
All the mods here don't all hold the same viewpoints or sentiments. But, when it comes to modding we set that aside and we mod based on the rules alone.
There seems to be this idea that all the mods here should be as dispassionate in our opinions as we should be objective in our modding. That if we fail in this, we are biased and supportive of some cultist identity within this forum.
We can be both be neutral and fair in our modding and express our beliefs.
As to to tougher skin...
The OT section is home to some very controversial concepts. Emotion often gets the better of us all as we are all ardent in what we believe.
I think we have gotten better at having conversations over the years in OT. Oh, there is plenty room for improvement on all our parts. We should all try to be better, not in a sarcastic sense, but in a real sense.
There will also be points to argue. Try not to take it to seriously. If you see sarcasm, note that it's sarcasm. It's not worth getting upset over. There are alot of characters on here. Alot of competing viewpoints that will often and most assuredly clash. A bit of thick skin can help there.
