Pat Connaughton

I think CJ will arguabley end up a better player, but I think Connaughton starts, because I think he will play better alongside Dame than CJ. I also think the bench will need CJ more than Connaughton. CJ is going to get most improved player AND 6th man award next year. :)
CJ can have the 6MOY, but he will have to settle for second in MIP behind Meyers. Not to be left out, we'll let Dame be MVP, Pat be ROY, and Aminu get DPOY.

That's not too much to expect, is it?

I love it!!! :)

Hey, if we can snag one or two of those even? Good things to come my friend!!!

I do have a feeling PatCon will stick in the league, and be a Blazers fan favorite.

I'm going to nickname him PattyCake if he makes the team.

I wonder why he did not get taken higher, good shooter, athletic....what's his downside?

Senior, played out of position for all of last season, small basketball school? I think maybe he really slipped through the cracks

I think the biggest red flag was that he is signed to a pro baseball team. Maybe flight risk?!

Poor handles for a guard. The ever present option of fleeing to MLB instead. He could have an Ainge type career in reverse!

Big concerns about his defense. Not quick for an NBA guard. Too short to be a forward. He is a spot up shooter on offense but doesn't bring much else on that end. Concerns about his ball handling, passing and ability to create his own shot.

Question about his combine numbers accurately reflecting his athleticism. As an example Luke Jackson trained like mad to measure well at the combine, got picked 10th but was a bust in the NBA.

I'm very interested to see how Pat plays but until he proves it in NBA games I'm going to temper my expectations.

Not quick... but was the quickest guy at the combine... alrighty then.

Maybe age or perceived lack of lateral quickness? Ben Mclemore did not have good handles. Both around the same size and vertical. But one guy went #7 and the other at #36. I don't see much difference between the two other than McLemore is suppose to be quicker. But that was the knock on Wes too.

I think Pats defense will be fine. Thing is, the rest sounds like your describing Wesley to a tee. They got the same fire, and intensity.. I think Connaughton is Vanilla Wes

Have you ever watched him play?

He isn't just a spot up shooter, he can drive and finish. Has a decent handle and can find open teammates, plays hard on defense.
Will do the dirty work and get rebounds he is a very pesky / annoying defender. Players will hate having him guard them.
You have to be very aware of where he is at on the court at all times or he will torch you for a 3 or a dunk. I've seen worse players drafted a lot higher, he has a high ceiling.

Pyro Pat will burn dudes!

I remember his work during the NCAA tournament. He made the big shots and can carry a swagger.

Stoked we signed him....he's gonna do us wonders

Not sure why teams passed on him, he love's basketball. He only signed his rights to Baltimore for $428,000 for 6 years he keeps that money or they give up his rights.
They get him if he ever decides to play baseball in the next 6 years. They're betting against him making it.
He was upfront with them that basketball was his main sport. He didn't blow that money either, bought a jeep and put rest in the bank.

Bunch of places to drive that jeep in Oregon.

Was anyone really worries he'd pick baseball? He wouldnt have been playing for the orioles for years. Minors more likely.

Eventually when he's an established player I want to see him play baseball Jun-Sep then back to the Blazers. We've never seen a dual sport NBA MLB

I'm surprised they gave Pat a 3 yr deal, but maybe they really believe in him...

But it's for peanuts. Doubt 625K gets in the way of us making a roster move, and if we really needed a spot, even eating his contract won't be a big deal.

Surprised he took that litte

For comparison, they gave Crabbe a 3-yr deal for 2.6M total but both years 2/3 were not guaranteed. Also he was the 31st pick, and Pat was 41st.
