Pat Connaughton

Looks like my "Project Pat" nickname is sticking!

After coining "Nards" I'm thinking I might have a knack for this...

For diez I'm thinking "hairy spainish dude"

IF Diez can jump... we can call him "Spanish Fly!" :smiley-president:

"Project Pat:" there r a lot of holes in his game but there's definitely some promise to the guy; he appears coachable, smart, & coordinated enough to make improvements enough to be able to make some meaningful contributions. Will he ever b a star? I seriously doubt it but like I said, I think he CAN improve enough to b useful to us:wink: THE thing that bugs me the most about him currently, is the fact that he doesn't/can't go left; even if he makes improvements elsewhere, this is 1 thing about him that may never change; my hope is that since he's a 2-sport guy, seems like he should have it in him to eventually (ASAP of course!) fix this.

Holding out hope some NBA level shooting practice will make him a dead eye.

I guess when I look at Pat, I think, "If JJ Redick can carve out a long productive NBA career, why can't he?"

Not comparable. Pat had a nice college career, but J.J. Redick was a beast of a college player. When I look at Pat, I think, "if Luke Babbitt is still on an NBA roster....?"

Who cares about their college careers? I'm just talking about their skill sets.

Don't necessarily agree with the first line, but for your summer reading pleasure...

Plain and simple: Pat Connaughton can ball. And apparently, in any sport.

The Portland Trail Blazers guard tweeted out this video of himself throwing a football on a football field for 80 yards. A shirtless Connaughton kicks off his shoes before throwing the 80-foot bomb down the field. In his post he also went ahead and tagged the New England Patriots with the hashtag #NFLDraft2017? just to stir that pot.

If he only he was as good at basketball

It seems like he chose to play his worst sport professionally.

I'm thinking he's hedging his bets that even if he flunk out of basketball he'll be able to salvage a baseball career..... which he might as a reliever. Hell never make it as a starter. You need at least three projectable pitches to make it as a starter. And it can take up to five years to achieve that, he's missed the boat on that one.

I think he's just building his brand. Lillard has rap. CJ has reporter stuff. Pat has multi-sportness.

His brand? Get some playing time first Pat. You could then sell yourself as a modern day Dan Marjerle. That dude got so much ass it wasn't even funny.

I'm real psyched to see if he's able to do anything at summer league this year. Last year he looked ok for a bit but was quickly out shined by Allen Crabbe. It'll be interesting to see how a year sitting on the bench has changed him. He didn't have much in the way of handles and everyone was thinking that 44 inch vertical had to be some sort of mistake because he sure didn't look that athletic.

I think Pat will surprise the doubters..he's got skills and he's got a great motor. Several players have mentioned how much progress he and Montero made their rookie season. Our garbage time rooks outplayed other teams garbage time rooks last season. We need a garbage time award in the NBA!

MIPIGTM (Most Improved Player In Garbage Time Minutes)

In before BGD renames the MIPIGTMs the "Jermaine O'Neal All-Stars" and passive-aggressively yells at us for deeming them "untouchable."

He could play baseball for the O's. I'm an O's fan. We had not seen much of him this year and if he was let go many would not notice. I watched him during the tournament and he is a really good college basketball player.
