I made it to Arizona today and holy shit!

110 degrees is no joke! it hits you like a ton of bricks when you step outside the airport for the first time. Desert living was appealing to me when I was younger but I don't think I'd be able to handle these temps on a regular basis.

Oh, btw, how does a city of 4+ million have no real downtown?!

Yea it really sucks! I was there earlier this month and felt like i was suffocating half the time. Right when you get off the plane, it feels like you were just placed into an oven. I would never live there. There's no way to get used to heat like that

why would you need a downtown when you have one of the top college campus' in the country? ASU and UT are by far the two best college environments i've seen. that is the place to party, and you have to in the summer at night, cause you spent all day inside in the A/C.

You get used to the heat. I felt the same way when I moved here from Portland 4 years ago. But after spending all day in my office at work in 75 degree air conditioning, stepping out in 110 is like being wrapped in blankets fresh from the dryer. I go to Portland every summer for the Oregon Brewers Festival, and last year it was 90 degrees on the water front and I would have much preferred 110 in Phoenix.

I graduated from ASU (after transferring from University of Portland) and the Tempe/Mesa scene is fantastic. You can be outside on the streets year round, and the girls hardly wear anything. As for Austin, its a fantastic place to be (my brother in law went to graduate school at UT) . If I had to leave Phoenix it would either be to go back to Portland or go to Austin.
