Re: Big Time Centers Rookie #'s

I see some #1 picks that are missing from that list

He was approaching it from the side of what players who proved successful did in their rookie seasons, not what top picks did in their rookie seasons.

Re: Big Time Centers Rookie #'s

I didn't title it #1 picks and their rookie numbers. I wanted to look at centers that probably had as much or more hype then Greg is getting from us and how they performed their rookie season.

Then you are still missing some

I know what he was doing and it is called cherry picking

Listen, i didn't name it EveryFuckingCenterToPlayTheGameAndTheirAverages. Why are you being a prick? I just thought I would throw some interesting #'s out their so we could discuss them, and you come on here being a jerk.

Because you are doing yourself a disservice by being inaccurate in only focusing on the good, and not the bad...

...which was previously said here

How am I being inaccurate by choosing hall of fame centers? People around here already have Greg headed to the Hall. I started a thread to show how amazing these guys were their rookie years and what people will compare Greg's #'s to.

Attempt to put some context around them. Age, number of years playing in college, stats their last season in college.

...but not the bad, not the failures. If people are already saying Greg could be headed to the hall, you must be steadfast and include the possibility that he is not. If other great centers have achieved such heights you must be resilient to such hype and consider that Oden is not apart of this group. Just because he has hype, does not guarantee that he will have success. You must be vigilant in your praise in order to achieve an objective perspective and ultimately, allow yourself the greatest chance of accuracy.

Numbers without context aren't interesting. I believe Greg will be one of the all time greats at his position, but this is just a horribly biased sample. It is as bad as the people that attempted to compare Greg to Yinka Dare before the draft.

Re: Big Time Centers Rookie #'s

Never mind. Just have somebody lock the thread then if it's so bad. I came over here excited to post with all these guys and you come on here and fucking critique me and how I start threads. Of all the horseshit threads floating around on here and you come and give me pointers. No thanks man.

Re: Big Time Centers Rookie #'s

It depends on the purpose of the exercise. If the purpose was to predict how good Oden will be by comparing him to others, then it is cherry-picking. If the point was simply to show where past great players were in their rookie seasons, as a baseline for what Oden needs to accomplish to be on that track, then it is not cherry-picking.

There's no need to take any general critique personally. Cpawfan has already said he considers Oden to be a great prospect, and I too share that sentiment. Rather, we see an injustice being made toward an objective opinion and would rather you support an agreeable opinion by more supportive means.

I'm responding to your posts, not critiquing you. There is nothing personal in my responses.

I fail to see how disagreeing with you that those stats are an adequate basis to project Oden's stats isn't a discussion of the topic. Were you expecting only a rah rah thread?

Re: Big Time Centers Rookie #'s

Nevermind man.

Re: Big Time Centers Rookie #'s

yet they are telling ME how to post on here! Fuck these guys.

My friend, try for a moment, to think away from the subject, and do think theoretically. Would it make sense for anyone, to support any issue, to only focus on the possible "good things" and not the bad? Would you not call this an incomplete, or perhaps, a biased view? I will say that I consider Greg Oden capable of achieving great things in the NBA, and consider him an NBA prospect worth conversing about with elaborate praise...but not yet; let this praise be at this point, inaccurate. While I will think that a certain player is capable of achieving great marks (this is, afterall, "potential"), I must also allow the possibility that such a great prospect may not reach this plateau (this is, after all, "potential").

Re: Big Time Centers Rookie #'s

jesus christ guys...it isnt rocket science that HCP was trying to do. You guys giving him shit missed his entire point. He was just trying to show the numbers of hof's C rookie numbers so people can get an idea of what Oden needs to be achieving to start his career as a hof C would. No fucking shit there are top big man busts, that was not the point of this thread at all.

yeah hcp! wtf! you cant just call them "rookies" and think you can get away with that vague bullshit! I want to know their bloodtypes before we start ANY comparisons!!!!

Dwight Howard is a Hall of Fame Center?

So you've never posted about Bynum being so young or that his second season was more like a true rookie season?

Re: Big Time Centers Rookie #'s

Are you a 5 year old that ask "why" after every fucking statement?

Dwight is the top young big man in the league...holy shit, hcp must have wanted to compare Oden to a young current great C who has had a great beginning to his career...How dare HCP compared him to a relevant big man...thats biased asshole

A fair point. I do mean that sincerely.

However with that logic look at the quoted Dwight Howard minutes. He achieved relatively poor output compared to his peers. Well, would it then not mean that a player can start distant from HOF stats and yet be dominant? That does beg a question my friends...

Regardless, let me assume the position that only praise is to be considered in this thread. My previous thoughts still hold with regard to the accuracy of the discourse achieved in this thread.

nitpick, nitpick, nitpick...you are fucking ridiculous

btw...this is an Oden thread if you didnt notice...It doesnt matter what Bynum did
