Then we get to Dame, and whether that was a bad decision. Is Dame a player who can lead a team to the finals? Sure, if he has a superstar next to him. Did Portland have a chance to bring in a superstar? No. .

Are you just talking about 2022-23?

Dame was in Portland for 11 seasons and there were a lot of elite players trade over his first 9-10 seasons in Portland. Blazers had chances and even tried, poorly it seems.

and of course, their misses in the draft are legendary

It’s truly a Magical season.
Looking at the magic roster, I have no idea who we could get back. Isaac makes close to Simons but it appears he won’t be eligible for trade until 1/6/25. They have a bunch of value contracts on their roster but I’m not sure who the Blazers would want outside of Blanchero and the Wagners.

They could give up both Anthony Black and Cole Anthony... I've said, I'd like those to Anthony Black, Cole Anthony and one of the two FRPs the Magic have in the upcoming draft for Ant and Delano.

The Magic can take on some extra salary and that trade does work even though we'd be sending out more salary and it wouldn't put the Magic in the luxury tax or anything.

Predictable, but concerning we might not be able to sell him for that much.

Cronin should have jumped at offers over the summer such as one good FRP as many rumored the Lakers offered. I'd guess the Lakers are no longer buyers as it's clear their not contending with any move like that. They would be trying to get a better player like Jimmy Butler.

Heard rumors that the Nets may move Cam Thomas.

If so I could see them interested in acquring Ant, so that would be a trade Id see if we can get in on.

Maybe we get a pick from them and eat KCP contract or something.

I think the compensation to us would be either a pick or reducing salary. Probably not involving KCP if we're reducing salary.

First all trade team was
Jimmy Butler
Lavine
Ingram
Zion
Valancinus

Second team is;
DAngelo Russell
Collin Sexton
Bobby Portis
Mitchell Robinson
Grant (below)

i
Jerami Grant, F
Portland Trail Blazers
Current deal:
Grant is in the second year of a five-year, $160 million contract signed in 2023. He has a $29.7 million salary this season.
The ink was not even dry on Grant's contract before he was subject to trade rumors. The reason: Damian Lillard asked to be moved one day after Grant agreed to re-sign in Portland.
Entering Year 2 and with $122 million still owed, Portland once again is faced with a decision on whether it should part ways with the forward. On the surface, that answer is yes.
Grant is 30 years old and does not fit Portland's post-Lillard timeline, but his ability to guard multiple positions is ideal for a playoff team. Unlike Ingram, who can become a free agent in the summer, the acquiring team would have Grant for the next three seasons.
Portland is facing a shrinking window to deal Grant. Unlike fellow trade candidate Kyle Kuzma , whose contract declines in each season, Grant's salary increases, making it more difficult to trade. (He has a $36.4 million salary in the last year of his contract, when he will be 33 years old.) On the court, he is having his second-worst statistical season of his career, shooting less than 40% from the field.

Other players to watch:Clint Capela (Atlanta), Ben Simmons (Brooklyn), Dorian Finney-Smith (Brooklyn), Maxi Kleber (Dallas), Malik Beasley (Detroit), Jonathan Kuminga (Golden State), Obi Toppin (Indiana), P.J. Tucker (Los Angeles Clippers), Gabe Vincent (Los Angeles Lakers), Caleb Martin (Philadelphia), KJ Martin (Philadelphia), Grayson Allen (Phoenix), Josh Okogie (Phoenix), Jusuf Nurkic (Phoenix), Robert Williams III (Portland), Bruce Brown (Toronto), Jordan Clarkson (Utah), John Collins (Utah), Kyle Kuzma (Washington) and Malcolm Brogdon (Washington).

Zion piece is interesting - I'd swap him for Grant or Ayton or whatever if the Pelicans were interested

i
Zion Williamson, F
New Orleans Pelicans

Current deal: Williamson has one of the more intriguing contracts in the league. The next three seasons ($39.4 million, $42.2 million and $44.9 million) are currently non-guaranteed. His $36.7 million salary this season becomes guaranteed Jan. 7 and is partially protected for $29.4 million. His $39.4 million salary in 2025-26 becomes guaranteed July 15 but the remaining $87 million owed is non-guaranteed.

As Charania reported last week, the Pelicans have no desire to waive Williamson despite an injury-marred career. Williamson has played more than 60 games in two out of his first five seasons and is currently out because of a left hamstring strain.

Should New Orleans explore the trade market for Williamson and build around Ingram? The question is valid, especially if the Pelicans are tired of regularly seeing Williamson's name on the injury report. The realization comes with New Orleans needing Williamson to be available if it wants to maximize his value on the court or in a trade.

If they do move him, the Pelicans can acquire expiring contracts and perhaps a future first-round pick. New Orleans can outright release Williamson this summer with no financial obligation.

I think the Schroeder move signaled they’re angling for a high pick.

Cam Thomas is similar to Simons. He’s just a bucket and brings nothing else. Except, Thomas is on a much more reasonable contract.

Yes agreed they are trying to get rid of players helping to win and tank. I'd think they could move Thomas for value - yes rumors are they are shopping him for a pick.

But then my idea was they could bring in Simons for nearly free basically just to sell some tickets, jack up shots, and try to increase his trade value so they can flip him next season. Blazers could get salary relief or a piece from a third team.

If the Blazers can get more value from the Magic or somewhere for Simons that would be preferred. My idea was that Simons to Brooklyn (if Cam is gone) makes more sense than keeping Simons in PDX after the deadline where he is just in the way of our youth and is entitled to a role.

I think they would want us to take Caldwell Pope and his remaining three years. To offset the financial cost Portland could send them Thybulle and also send out about $5 million more than they bring in. I think they want Reath also. I would try Simons, Reath and Thybulle for Caldwell Pope, Anthony Black, Tristan Da Silva and a FRP.

Ayton for Zion....straight swap

What if it took more? Would you give them a future 1st? On one hand, NO already benefits from the shorter contract and Ayton is the healthier player of the two (Despite how many games the Blazers have sat him) Zion is a huge risk, but what if he could finally stay healthy? I know....that seems unlikely, but it would be a game-changer if he did. We could sit him this year and still tank for a top pick. If we landed a top-two pick to go along with Clingan and Zion...........

LMAO that ain't happening, my friend. I wish.

Which part are you wishing for? Anthony Black and his 24% 3-point shooting? Even Scoot shoots better than that.
Da Silva does nothing for me. That leaves the 31-year-old KCP who is having a poor year. Not sure what we can get for him.

Sure the FRP has value but I don't see how the proposal is in the "LMAO" category.

Anthony Black is a fucking AMAZING defender, and is at least the passer Scoot is but several inches taller. There is no way they're giving him up.

Simons is almost a poor man’s Thomas. I wouldn’t see it on their end

I wouldn’t give a single asset for Zion. It’s either free or not worth it
