I agree. Davis is a handful and is going to be problems for any player. Gabriel was caught out of position a few times and he committed some fouls but he brought energy and he was effective at filling the role. Even scored a few points. Could not have asked more from a rookie in that situation. Now can he improve? He is obviously going to get some more minutes.

Even with the foul trouble and the obvious mismatch, (FWIW) Wenyen was a +12 for the game. Hustle and energy can go a long way.

What I see of Davis and even his stat was big. Almost half his points was from free throw line but he didn't shoot very well I think he was 6-28 something like that 0-5 from 3. But at times he disappears especially the 4th quarter last night.

I've been on record as saying I just didnt want to get swept. It's all gravy from here.

but if the Lakers now win 4 in a row, that 1st game will be labeled a fluke

I still expect the Lakers will probably win the series, but the Blazers have a puncher's chance now; they only have to go 3-3 while LA has to go 4-2

*********************************************************

some people here were saying that Portland's biggest advantage was that LA was crappy at perimeter shooting. I was a little skeptical about that, but for sure, last night, the lakers lobbing all those bricks from outside just killed them. And when they got inside, Whiteside stuffed 5 of their shots. Holy backboards!

1) He left Denver for NY largely because of his wife's business interests in NY. Last I heard NY was his primary residence. Do you any reason to think that has changed?
2) The Knicks new GM is his former agent.
3) We don't have his Bird rights and the Knicks have more cap room than we do.

If that doesn't woo him, there is also the very real possibility that someone like the Bucks or Clips will sell him on a 1 year deal to chase a ring. And please don't tell me that the Bucks, Clips, or any other team I can name is "trash". You know that is BS and throwing it around is an insult to serious discussion.

Melo has money. My guess would be Brooklyn way before the Knicks....based on the rosters.

Melo has money.

one fun stat at bbref is they post how much money each player has made from contracts

Melo has earned 260 million.

if you make 50,000 a year, it would only take you 5200 years to earn that much. You might get bored with your job sometime after 5000 years. But if you stayed healthy, you'd have a lot of sick leave built up

He was selected in the top 10. I’m telling you if he was a late 1st rounder I wouldn’t mind him at all. Plus this heap and praise he gets is really unnecessary and it gets annoying. Now is he a bum? Absolutely not. He’s actually not bad at all BUT to the level of extent that a lot of folks put him at is what gets annoying. He’s a solid journeyman level player that has decent defense and can hit the occasional jumpshot. Imo that’s about it.
Do you honestly think that other people's support of him is more annoying than your constant trashing of him, and pointing out how unbelievable it is to you that he was drafted 10th?

something like 8 points in second half.

Lakers lost because we killed them with the 3 point shot. Look at their 3pt stats/percentage versus ours, game.

He's in good company. The Oakland A's once traded three minor leaguers to the Cubs for a shortstop they wanted. The throw in was a washed up pitcher named Dennis Eckersley.
It's well documented that Eck's career that had started off so incredibly well as a starter had been derailed due to alcoholism. He had been completely out of the majors for three years and had just finished a year of treatment. He may be a different type of situation than Wenyen... a proven commodity out of the game for off the field reasons.

Sir Charles never gives up on us. I've always loved that. I wonder if he's such a supporter because he almost became a Blazer and really wanted to play for the team?

They stayed in that game only because of offensive rebounding and our sloppiness with the ball on offense. We weren't rebounding the way we will, I'm sure of that. They also weren't causing the majority of those "steals" we were being lazy and sloppy, I'm also sure we'll take care of the ball together. One other thing that I'm sure of is while they'll never shoot the ball very well from three, especially because we are so good at stopping the inside game and they set up all of their outside shooting from the inside game, they will shoot it much better from outside than they did in game one. I expect both teams to play better but our room to be better is bigger in my opinion.

Chuck used to kill us all the time. The only reason he's so cool with us now is that we have an inside presence with Nurk. He used to say that we wouldn't beat anybody until we could get easy baskets in the paint, so he's a fan of this iteration of the Blazers, not a Blazers fan.

which means he's the first player with 20-15-15

exactly right....he dissed the Dame/Aldridge teams a lot

For about 6-7 years he dissed teams that shot a bunch of threes saying they live and die by the jumpshot. He hated the Warriors too.

Now he's dissing the only team that can't shoot threes.

Makes sense.
