CP3 is doing the same thing Tony Parker did to us. He is abusing our screen defense. Under Stotts we have never been able to figure out how to guard pick plays or set pick plays.

We've been saying this for years, but he really needs a defensive coordinator.

They consistently get good shots and we get difficult shots. Yeah if we hit more it'd look better; but that's not a sustainable way to win more than a game.
We got a lot of good shots and open shots tonight, we just couldn't hit at all.

What lost this game for us was dreadful shooting all around.

Our 2nd unit didn't play well at all.

Maybe we should be starting Vonleh and focusing on defense like when we had longer winning streaks.

Go with what got us here.

To sum it up.....

Dame's shooting and CJ's defense - this could be an easy sweep for LA.

Losing by 20+ in both games is a pretty good indicator.

Plumlee lobs to whiteside.

Stotts refuses to change. Says we can't "reinvent" ourselves just for the playoffs because we don't have enough time to practice it or some shit. I don't buy that, sorry. In fucking high school we regularly changed up how we defended things like the pick and roll based on our opponents.

The thing I noticed the most through the first two games is that I miss our giant goofball Meyers... We need him so bad right now.

First it was, "man I'm just so happy we made the playoffs. This is great."

Now it's, "God we fucking suck. Dame sucks. CJ sucks. Aminu sucks. Stotts sucks. Our defense sucks. WE SUCK!"

It's tough to watch but i actually saw a team that could beat the clippers tonight. They had the intensity on defense to keep things close and play with these guys. Overall there were plenty of good looks that simply did not fall. This team if making open looks they have made all year would have been leading most of that game and they would have been in a much different position heading into the 4th quarter.
The Clippers are a proven team but they have also proven that they choke. The Blazers need to get back home and win a game. Get a few of those touch foul calls and see some shots fall that regularly go down. Hold home court and send this series back to LA tied and then we will see if the Clippers start to tighten up. They have a tendency to argue and bicker when things don't happen right for them. Pushing this series to 2-2 would in fact bring it back here for game 6 also.
This series is not over yet and from what i have seen the Blazers do in fact have a team that can compete with these guys. They need some confidence and a little luck. The adjustments the team made were fine. they worked well. Aminu and CJ were getting open looks. Crabbe was getting some looks also as well as Henderson. If those guys can make shots they have been making things will open up for Dame. Dame also missed open looks but he was still being covered pretty tight.
It must be a bad shooting night when Plumlee is the leading scorer with 17.

If the Blazers are smart they will explore a C.J. trade for a big time big or Paul George.

Yeah, because big time bigs are always being traded and the Pacers are totally looking to trade Paul George.

Did you go to the school of "saying stupid things enough times that people will believeit is true "?

They don't suck, they're just overmatched. The seedings are deceiving...while they snagged the #5 seed, they did so in a year when the Western Conference is super top-heavy...there's a gigantic chasm between the top four teams in the West and the second four teams. The Blazers are an average to a little-above-average team which was good enough, this year, to ascend to #5 (with liberal help from Memphis breaking into pieces and Houston imploding). Any seed from 5-8, though, was basically just fodder for one of the top four seeds.

The Blazers have a good young foundation and they still overachieved to get to "best of the okay teams." There's a lot of work to do for them to get into the elite class, but at least they're ahead of schedule.

Wow you're a genius. Go find an NBA coach quick and give him your insight from playing in high school.

You're slipping in your old age Minstrel. Usually you have a better sarcasm meter.

Since hitting series-clinching three to beat Rockets in 2014, Blazers' Damian Lillard is 12-for-68 (17.6%) on threes in 12 playoff games.

Damn

More bad math for the Blazers. They are 2-10 in those 12 games.

All I asked was for a competitive series

Smh

It's no surprise that Damian has shot poorly since that series/game winner.

He's had zero help since then. LaMarcus was shit in the 2nd round that year, and was an absolute waste of space in the series last year.

This year, this team is far too young/inexperienced to really know what the hell to do. And with no one else really having the veteran experience to rely on, they're playing like a team in it's first ever playoffs. In way over their head.

Add to that the fact that the team has 2 players who are worthy of starting. Not 2 in the starting 5, mind you. 2 out of 15 roster positions. That's not to say that the players don't or couldn't have roles with the team in the future (Ed, Mason, Moe and Gerald come to mind as decent backups for the team), but as starters or players who are depended on for providing some of the offense, it is not good.

I actually think CJ should be the backup SG/PG combo, ala Manu Ginobili.

Aminu should never create offense for himself. Ever. Period.

The #1 off season goal (for the players that are staying) are these:

Work on your mid-range to 20 foot jumper if you're a SG/SF/PF.

If your name is Davis or Plumlee, work ALL summer on your fucking free throws (not complaining about how they've played in the series) and your 15 foot jumper. Nothing else.

Vonleh needs to work on confidence and moves. Basically, watch tapes of Otis Thorpe and PF's who can face the hoop and score.

Damian needs to fix whatever is wrong with his shot. Be it selection, or how to shoot while guarded/knocked down. Not that I expect him to play the way he did during his hot stretch this season, but he was playing smarter then.

I'm not sure who this player is, but the team needs someone in the middle who is not undersized for his position.

I'm not worried about the players that the Blazers will sign or possibly trade for, but I've accepted that the chances of them getting an all star quality 3rd player are pretty much nil.

I don't think a coaching change is needed, although an ACTUAL emphasis on defense is valuable beyond measure. Damian does show glimpses, but it's inconsistent.

I think that the team will probably under perform next year, if they don't make significant changes to certain aspects of the roster/style of play.

Considering this team has no real business being in the playoffs, I can't be that upset. Especially knowing that the Clippers aren't doing shit ever.
