I know a bunch of you don't like Collins but this team was 7-2 with him and has pretty much stunk up the court without another Power Forward that plays defense and can make a shot from 3.

Down by 29... not ideal. It will take a sports miracle to win this but weirder things have happened.
I remember a game where Lakers led by 30 at half in the Shaq days and Mavs cut it to 27 after third quarter and then won the game in the 4th. I remember a game where Clippers came back from 27 down with 8 minutes left against the Grizz. And last year, the Clippers came back from 31 down to beat the Warriors.

he doesn't play defense, he fouls.

and he can't hit threes.

he wouldn't make even an ounce of difference in this series.

Show me a team with bad man-to-man defenders but are a great defensive team. Team defense always starts with your ability to defend 1:1.

Why do we guard a guy so close with a bad defender? We get beat off the dribble every time and that’s the end of our defense. When I watch the Celtics it seems like their prime directive is to stay in front of their guy even if that means having less contest on the 3. I know they have better defenders but they have an entirely different defensive philosophy.

I did a poor job of asking that question. A team full of bad 1:1 defenders that are a good team defensive team. Not a team with 1 bad defender that was still good at defense.

That's fundamentally the problem though because the coach clearly prioritizes three point shooting over defenders. He's given little to no minutes to Wenyen Gabriel and Nassir Little because he wanted to play future Hall of Famers Anthony Tolliver and Mario Hezonja.

He has the tools. It's his priorities.

I agree... People are super hard on him for some reason. I would prefer he was our backup 4/5, but the notion that losing him was no big deal seemed crazy to me.

We were 2-1 with Collins to start the season too.

He’s not great at all but his 6 fouls and spacing is missed.

You're right. Melo was a lockdown defender before coming to Portland and if Ant gets traded, he'll be the second coming of Gary Payton.

Little can't play. Fainted.

Steve Kerr gave up 86 points in a half during the NBA Finals?

javale mcgee is sitting here throwing behind the back passes.

this is just embarrassing

His loss hurt but it wasn't going to change this series. Theres deeper rooted issues at play here.

this game was over after 5 minutes. who will own up and take responsibility. you dont ever allow 80 in a half , especially not in must win playoff game. It was a fluke that they even made the playoffs. The sixers played better and got swept. First game was a fluke too. This team is not making the playoffs next year. But maybe a good draft pick. Think about it: Phoenix, Memphis, New Orleans, are all coming back better. Never mind Utah, Denver, OKC. Portland is a pretty low end team. Only Dame makes this team anything.
