With Mills on the shelf and having foot surgery it got me to thinking about what interest KP has in Pooh Jeter, then I read this comment from Jeter in the Portland Trib and it made me think KP is taking a long hard look at Pooh as some emergency depth at the position with Blake and Bayless tentatively set as 1 and 2 on the depth chart.

The broken foot suffered Thursday night by second-round draft pick Patty Mills opens the potential for playing time for Pooh Jeter, the former University of Portland point guard who played professionally in Spain last season.

“It’d be a great fit,” said Jeter, 25, who missed the opening day of the Blazers’ training camp because his Spanish team hadn’t sent the necessary paper work. “We’ve been in talks with Portland the last two years, but it wasn’t the right opportunity, with Sergio here and three point guards. Hopefully, now is the time.”

Jeter was cleared for participation and took part in Portland’s Tuesday morning workout.

I admit total ignorance on Jeter, except that he played for University of Portland and has been overseas, does this guy make sense as a cheap backup?

...I believe he was a solid player at UP, but I have no idea how he progressed overseas??? Anyone???

Pooh's ability and probability to be effective in the NBA is equivalent to....well....POOOO!

I would not be able to deal with Crapzano gloating over it if Pooh Jeeter actually played in an NBA game for the Blazers.

Well hopefully his quality of play has nothing to do with his name.

How about:

Shaun Livingston(notes) seemed to be everyone's second-favorite player during his star-crossed turn with the Los Angeles Clippers, as his range of skills and lithe frame made him a fun watch even as he struggled through three injury-plagued seasons with the team. Currently playing for the Oklahoma City Thunder's summer league outfit after a respectable showing with the team during the regular season, Livingston is trying to return the form that offered so much promise before he suffered a devastating knee injury in February of 2007.

He's likely to remain with the Thunder by all accounts ... in fact I'm pretty sure he's under contract.

In 30+ MPG (in Spain) he averaged around 3 assists and 2 1/2 turn-overs.

In other words - he is a "PG" only in the sense that he is too small any play any other position. (with the possible exceptions of "towel boy" and "locker-room floozy".)

I thought about that too ... then again the way the actually award assists in the ACB and in other euro leagues usually depresses assist numbers, I'd have to look for the formula (I think John Hollinger or Jonathan Givony came up with something?) but my best guess is that his numbers would translate to something closer to 4.5 to 5 assists per game by NBA rules.

I think he's been given a good shot here to prove himself in Summer League to get invited to training camp. Seems like a good guy, I don't know anything about his game either and I don't know how much of an opportunity he'll get in SL with Bayless running the point but he's got a more of a shot than he did a week ago.
