Hickson Coming Back

Adrian Wojnarowski ‏@WojYahooNBA
J.J. Hickson has agreed to a one-year contract with Portland, league source tells Y!

According to Woj, we signed Hickson to a 1-year contract.

Re: Hickson Coming Back

Aldridge/Hickson
Leonard/Freeland

Not too bad. I mean, they will likely be bad, but I like the youth and promise there.

Re: Hickson Coming Back

I'm not mad at this.

Lets see if he can continue his solid play.

Re: Hickson Coming Back

No Bird Rights on a 1 year deal right since we didn't offer the QO?

Re: Hickson Coming Back

PG: Lillard | Smith
SG: TBD
SF: Batum | Claver
PF: Aldridge | Hickson
C: Leonard | Freeland

The front-court is shaping up nicely.

Re: Hickson Coming Back

Why don't you just plug SG with

Matthews/Elliott/Barton

And SF

Batum/Claver/Barton

Re: Hickson Coming Back

Wow, didn't see this happening. The last I heard, Hickson was talking with Golden State. Did we overpay Hickson or something? Why would he accept a 1-year offer?

Looks like they may be trying to play for FA space for next summer or hoping to trade Hickson at the deadline for a team trying to cut salary?

I like this move, and I liked the way JJ came on last year for us when no one else stepped up. Nice work Olshey!

Because he had a worse-than-average year and he wants to re-establish his worth to what it had been. Some here seem to think that his Kings half-season was his average.

Source with knowledge tells Pro Basketball Draft that JJ Hickson's deal with the Portland Trail Blazers is for $4M base with incentives.

I'm suprised Hickson wasn't offered more than that by another team. I wish Portland would have locked up up longer term, because he's a very good front court guy, he can start at C and back up either PF of C.

Now we just need a backup PG, and we're all set for a crappy season!

4 million gives us a piece that could potentially help add salary in a bigger deal at the trade deadline. We've struggled recently with all of our contracts being minimum deals, or really big deals, which makes building pieces to match slightly difficult mid season, moving 5 rookies to trade for an 8 a year guy. So another bonus, I suppose.

But Flynn, Craig Smith, Pryzbilla and Diebler are not on the roster. I also heard Kurt Thomas is thinking of retiring. I wonder if we can trade the guy to a team he wants to go to for a 2nd round pick. He's really messing with the average age of our team.

QO was for $3,357,569. Assuming he took that, we can still offer a max offer and have 79k left over while we decide what to do with Nic.

missed the 4M base salary above. Well, now we can't offer a "max", but can offer 13.1M to start, which is just about a max.

No matter what the money is, there's hardly any such thing as "overpaying" on a one year contract.

Przybilla came in midseason full of steam, rowdy and starting fights with the other team, but soon dissolved into jelly to conform to his teammates, after the team was blown up. If he's healthy, a good coach will make that roster a .500 team next season.

That's a very good point. Unless you're paying $7 mil for one year of Kwame Brown, lol ;)

(and yes, I know that Brown's expiring contract played a part in the Warrior's trade for Bogut).

Well, if Claver and Hickson aren't official, we still have max money. But there are no max players remaining, so it's kinda moot.

WHO'S THE MORON WHO GOT RID OF HICKSON?

You guys just got lucky. I was planning to post that this season whenever we badly needed improved PF and C play.

The season after some idiot got rid of Juwan Howard and got no replacement, we had about 10 losses directly caused by Howard's absence. (Someone bet the farm on Oden coming back.)

I wanted Hickson back too. Shrewd, shrewd move. If nothing else, he's broad/wide enough to play a fair amount of C, since LA balks at that. I like this move. I can dig it.

good news... I'd rather have him then a lot of the options that been thrown out lately. Unless management pulls a rabbit out of their hat, my guess is he's the starter at 5. I'd expect them to add at least one more vet Big... maybe Joel. Has anyone heard how JP is doing physically?

I think this is exactly what I was going to post. Nice thinking, Dw. :)

I am happy Hickson's coming back, and I hope that he can show his production with Portland wasn't a fluke. I'm just surprised by it.

One thing that I am enjoying is the addition/retention of big bodies. The NBA is allegedly a wing's league, but putting up with Camby and a broken-down Prz and an even-older-than-me Kurt Thomas a year after Barron and Collins and Marks and Johnson and Oberto...

It'll be nice to see what the younger big guys can do.

Ed O.
