Portland trying to get PAUL MILLSAP!

Can we still cut Travis Outlaw? Cut him, so that we could offer Millsap 11 mil instead of 7.7. He'd either work out great for us like he did in Utah with him and Boozer, or he'd be a terrific trading piece. Much more value than Outlaw.

Everyone keeps saying Millsap can't play C, that he is PF only, but I have seen him play C on the jazz last year. That might not be his ideal position being only 6'8", but as we all know, he plays much bigger than he is.

adding to my last post, playing bu C he will be playing against a lot of second team centers who he would destroy. Don't count PM as a PF only.

No, and why cut Outlaw for Paul F**king Millsap, who can't create his own shot and is a one position player on an underachieving Utah team?

If this does happen, we are locked out of free agency for at least 10 days I believe. This would be a great addition if Nate can figure the minutes. Milsap had been the best back up PF in the league the last three years, but showed he is much more than that last season. But he is only 6'7", so I don't think he is a true starter in the league. I don't think the Jazz will match. Nobody wants Boozer. He is injury prone, has a questionable attitude and he is quickly becoming Zach Randolph. This would be a good pick up. Still not enough to compete for the title. We still need a facilitator or a scorer. Our offense was painful to watch at times last year.

Yeah ... I can defintely see that. I'd do that deal. Both tems would basiically be giving up a great defensive player at a position of less need to add a defensive player at a position of great need

The 13 man depth chart would look something like this:
Blake/Bayless/Mills
Roy/Rudy
Battier/Rudy/Martell(?)
LMA/Milsap/Cunningham?
Oden/Pendergraph

with the rookies likely getting very little minutes aside from garbage time or to fill in for injuries.
YES YES DELICIOUS!

That would be perfect. I would still try and trade Blake and Outlaw for Hinrich to get a lineup of:

PG Hinrich/Bayless
SG Roy/Rudy
SF Battier/Batum
PF LMA/Millsap/Cunningham
C Oden/LMA/Pendergraph

That lineup is both delicious and nutritious. Turns out I'm from the Amazon too and we only eat amazing lineups (this thread needed more surrealism). I think I would absolutlely lose my shit if that was our offseason and I think our window would open next year. Battier + Millsap + Hinrich offseason are you kidding me brilliant!

Losing Przy for Millsap? Eh.

Losing Przy is not a good thing.

F'ing whoo hoo! Just saw this news. Let's go get Millsap!!! Guy's a beast

I think you misread something or didn't understand.

It would be:

Losing Pryz for Millsap AND somebody like Hinrich. (if we did indeed trade Pryz)

What happened to Batum? Surely you didn't send him with Przybilla for Battier? Even in hypothetical world, I'd be outraged at that trade you executed.

Typo ... those damn Euros, they all look the same to me.

I already addressed that in another post. Game 1 (44-30 Houston) skewed those stats.

true, but I think it's fair to say that game 1 aside, the rebounding matchup was fairly even in that series when it had been a strength throughout the series. Adding Millsap could turn that back into an advantage for Portland, though it does depend on what happens with Prz.

Unless he demands starting minutes (I am not sure that he does) and assuming we improve, I don't see Billa walking as long as we are willing to pay him. Did I miss some news of him being dissatisfied with his role in an upward shooting team?

Joel was the heart and soul of this team last year. I would hope that the end result of this would not be to trade Joel, unless it's for a very good PG. Kirk Hinrich in this case doesn't qualify. Anyways, we need a true Center to back up Oden, in case shit happens.

Whaaat? Millsap is a great low-post player and an awesome rebounder. He takes 67% of his shots inside, like a real PF should....Outlaw is a wing, and takes only 19% of his shots inside.

Also, 61% of Outlaws inside shots were assisted, compared to 67% for Millsap, so there is not that much of a difference. We don't really need him to play multiple positions anyway, we already have good players at those other positions.

A guy can only play one position at a time, what really matters is how well he plays it. I think Paul Millsap a much better player than Outlaw.

I don't know why a team would ever want to break up a center duo like Oden and Przybilla. Makes no sense.

My thoughts....I know you have all been waiting.

Milsap makes us a lot better. There, I got that out of the way.

Now my concerns....NOT COMPLAINTS.

Thought #1. No way in holy hell that Greg, LaMarcus, Joel and Milsap would all be happy with minutes this season. I think MIlsap was honest when he said he would be amicable. By the way, that is not the same as happy. But I think he is thinking 30-32 minutes behind LaMarcus and Greg. With 96 available, and if you guesstimate Aldridge at 35, Greg at 31 and Milsap at 30 that leaves 0 for Joel.

Thought #2. I think this is Portland's way of forcing Utah to include them in a deal to get Hinrich personally. I mean what better fall back plan if it fails than to end up with Milsap?

Thought #3. Joel might be on the move. He is a damn good center, and teams would probably like someone like him. I could see a deal of Joel, Travis and maybe Blake for an upgrade at PG and another body. Or Joel, Travis and Rudy for Ridnour and Redd? Just thinking outoud, don't dwell on those.

The signing of Milsap would be a great move by Portland, but not if they did nothing else. The one really big issue for this team was perimeter defense, and until it's addressed we won't move forward. Kudos to KP if this is true.

Maybe we should just keep adding centers? We don't need anybody to run the offense. That's highly overrated.

Two is not an excessive number of centers.

For all the people saying it's madness to trade Przybilla, I just want to say you vastly underrate Aldridge at the C because as others have pointed out in this thread and I've said in others he had Frye/Outlaw as the other big. That meant he got no help on defense and no help on the boards. With Paul Millsap at the 4 and LMA at the 5 we can defend most 2nd unit's in the league. I wouldn't mind getting another backup center but as has also been pointed out we do have Pendergraph who may be a rookie and 2nd rounder but he is also 6'10.

At the end of the day the impact Joel has on the team does not equal the impact of Millsap + Battier or Hinrich or (please god) all three. I love Joel and wouldn't be sad to see him get a ring here. Realistically though we will be way over the cap next year and won't be able to offer Joel what he can get elsewhere (not even close). We might as well trade him now before he goes and get value for him while we can. I think Joel for Battier followed up by Outlaw & Blake (throwing in Rudy seems to steep for Kirk) + cash and picks for Hinrich would be an off season for the ages.

Other then just saying that we need a back up center, why do you guys think Joel is more important then giving the team the ability to upgrade a starter at SF, PG or both?

How would you feel about a straight swap of Joel for Battier? then maybe moving Blake and Trav for a guy like Hinrich? (not at all sure the Bulls would go for that).

Hinrich/Bayless/Mills
Roy/Rudy
Battier/Batum/Martell (if he's ever able to play again)
LMA/Milsap/Cunningham
Oden/Pendergraph/<some-other-fill-in-the-blank-warm-body>

The way I see it playing out is that Oden and LMA play about 18 minutes per game, and by that time we are up by 40 so Przy and Millsap get 30 minutes apiece.

I like the way you're thinking!

I wonder what Quick meant by his first sentence:

what trades?

I'm guessing that he's referring to the Bobcats hanging up on KP when he tried to move just Travis Outlaw in a lopsided deal for Gerald Wallace :devilwink:
