Portland trying to get PAUL MILLSAP!

I would like this signing. I really think he could play Brian Grant to Aldridge's 'Sheed. Of course, I would be in favor of Lee also, presuming he is content to playing a backup. I think rebounding is very important, and having a great rebounder on the floor at all times between Oden and Millsap would be a nice luxury. Both of them can help cover up Aldridge's weakness there. Of course, it goes without saying Joel would have to be moved. But he could bring us a nice piece in trade, but it's the only way the Millsap signing makes sense to me.

It's called getting maximum value. Paying Aldridge a probable 10-11 million, Milsap a likely 7.5 million, Oden a possible 10+ million dollar extension next year (depending on the cap and performance) and Joel with the ability to opt out next season and probably commanding somewhere around 7 million a year for 5 years that's a lot of money tied up in your frontcourt and also too many bodies and not enough minutes to go around. Getting Milsap and paying him all of that money means you need to get at least 28+ minutes per game out of him and that only happens if you divide up the backup power forward and center minutes. Assuming LMA plays 36 minutes, Oden manages to keep himself on the court for 30 minutes (God I hope!) that leaves you with 30 minutes for Milsap and Przybilla to divvy up -- that's bad value for the money you are spending, especially when this team could probably dangle Joel as a trade piece and get some real interest; just consider the dearth of quality 7+ footers in the league.

The way I see it playing out is that Oden and LMA play about 18 minutes per game, and by that time we are up by 40 so Przy and Millsap get 30 minutes apiece.

So me and a friend were just talking about this. It came to mind that I read something about Milsap's agent being upset with the way things were being handled in Utah. If I was an agent, I would be looking for some leverage. What better leverage is there, then a division rival making an offer to your client? Are sources sure about this, or is this some more spew from an agent trying to get a deal done? :devilwink:

Yeah, that's certainly an option ...

I really like the end result here.

Sign Millsap then trade Travis, Blake, Joel for Deng and Hinrich. That would be a great offseason.

Although since we would be using our cap space to get Paul I think we would need to include an extra player to Chicago, possibly a deal with Martell. Chicago wouldn't want him, but it would be necessary for salaries to match and this would still save them massive dollars for the declining cap next season. If Martell can't recover from his injury they could get an injury exception (is any of his deal non-guaranteed?)

Hinrich/Bayless
Roy/Rudy
Deng/Batum
LMA/Millsap
Oden

Lamarcus would play a lot of 5 and our SF's could get some burn at the 4.

I guess we'll find out tomorrow :dunno:

After his BYC expires.

Right, good point. The lower limit on when he can be traded wasn't key to me, just that it's no longer a "use soon or lose" asset.

So, either would be fantastic, but both can work?

Making fun of typos is the lowest form of humour. Except in certain tribes in the Amazon where it is, actually, the highest form of humour. Whole political campaigns can be turned around by a brilliant mocking of a typo among such tribes.

You could probably pencil Pendergraph in for some backup 5 minutes. God knows if he's going to be able to be effective, but he's 6'10" and he was a pretty good/smart defender at ASU

If this is true, and we end up trading Joel, I could see him going to Houston for Battier.

It just so happens that I'm from the Amazon.

Millsap is a far superior player to Lee, and a better all-around player IMHO than Boozer. He's very comparable to D. West.

I would love to see pace-adjusted figures for David Lee.... great rebounder, average everywhere else...

Now that's burning through his Microsoft money at a fevered pace. But if Allen was willing, I'd love to gamble on Deng and also pick up Hinrich.

You mean, he's going to foul out within 5 mins?

I have been hard on KP, so it is only fair to applaud him now. (assuming this story is true)

There may be an element of risk - but it is still worth the effort.

You work at Amazon? That's very cool. I do all my shopping there, I can't imagine the benefits of an employee discount. (Well, I could imagine them...what I mean is that I'm too lazy to calculate them.)

Yeah ... I can defintely see that. I'd do that deal. Both tems would basiically be giving up a great defensive player at a position of less need to add a defensive player at a position of great need

The 13 man depth chart would look something like this:
Blake/Bayless/Mills
Roy/Rudy
Battier/Batum/Martell(?)
LMA/Milsap/Cunningham?
Oden/Pendergraph

with the rookies likely getting very little minutes aside from garbage time or to fill in for injuries.

Edit: How could I forget Nic? ack!

I can't see Millsap signing unless he's certain he's going to receive playing time. If that's the case then we would probably be moving Joel :sigh:

I mean who knows how effective he's going to be in the NBA

edit: doh.

Reading comprehension is fun. and my sarcasm meter appears to be broken

Bummer. Cap space would be wasted on this deal IMO.

This kind of trade proposal is nuts.

More like Joel and Blake for Hinrich might get Chicago's interest.

No, no, I'm from the Amazon. That is, my mother was an Amazon.

I'm kind of thinking this is a chess move. Try to make Utah match so we can force them into a deal. If they don't, we get Millsap.

I was thinking the same thing. Remember that talk of a Hinrich/Thomas to PDX, Boozer to CHI and cap space to Utah deal? Perhaps this is a way of forcing their hand.

I wouldn't feel so bad trading Joel if he is indeed going to opt out next year..I love that guy though..we better add toughness back from a Joel trade though

I don't get these people suggesting LA playing the 5. It's nice in theory, but what if LA gets hurt? Then you are LAKERed (that is my new f-bomb) You would have to have Pendergraph start playing some Center time in any Pryz trade. If you want to trade Pryz, you really need to get some awful back up center in return

Yea that would mean no lopsided trade. The question is how much money is on the table.

There had better be a secondary move involving a trade, because wasting cap space on a back-up PF in a buyer's market would be a terrible move.
