Yeah, I know I shouldn't have copy and posted the entire article but I thought it should be read in its entirety.

Really just sounds like an opinion piece based off of rumors swirling around with no facts to back it up. He wont' be the Brandon Roy from 2008-2009 but from 2009-2010, who can say none of us including this writer know his actual health.

I don't know, honestly.... Brandon will probably never dominate like he did, but he could work on his shot and develop some other aspects of his game. I think he could easily average 20+ ppg again... it just won't be in the same way. I'm just not sure what his mental state is. How will he handle this? There's just no way to know.

I could see Roy doing very well in a system like what the Lakers run.

Weird, here we were reading about meniscus transplant but according to this article no such operation exists.

The meniscus allograft procedure exists, but as far as we've been told no professional athlete has ever had it done while they were still engaged in competition. So maybe there's a first time for everything, but if this is the only medical treatment available that could reverse the damage that has been done, then it sounds like his odds are not exactly great for being able to return to "normal" activities -- in this case that means one of the most strenuous sports he could possibly engage in as far as wear and tear goes on the knees.

The title of the article is correct. It is Portland's problem. I just think it is un-likely that someone else wants to make it their problem and trade for him in 5 weeks with the hope he will help them this year.

I agree. Cho can make all the calls he wants, but what team would be willing to pick up Roy and his huge contract, knowing that he may only be a shadow of himself for the rest of his career?

I read this yesterday and wondered why it is that we find more information on this message board than these so-called insiders seem to be able to track down. If I read one more account of Roy's knees being "bone-on-bone" I'm going to scream. I mean, do these clowns even take the time to look at a bit of literature on knee anatomy before issuing their medical opinions? There's cartilage at the ends of both the thigh and shin bones. Not having meniscus means that cartilage begins to wear away quicker than it should, but it's pretty unlikely that it's "bone-on-bone" or we would be hearing about microfracture as an option. Add to that ignorance the fact that he seems to know nothing about meniscus transplant and you see just how uninformed this piece is. True, it's never been used in a pro athlete before retirement, but it's hardly a situation where it would be an outright miracle procedure as Dwyer speculates.

As far as trading Roy goes, seriously, does he think that's even an option at this point? Only if Cho is willing to take back an equally awful contract and give up young talent is that even within the realm of the conceivable. And if he made such a crappy deal, how does that improve the team? I'd chalk this up to the sad state of Internet "journalism" except that our local Oregonian writers seem to be just as clueless.

The thing I am concerned about the most now is that the last few times I have seen this sort of thing happen, it has hobbled teams, and even smashed some teams into the cellar for a decade plus. When the Knicks lost Allan Houston right after signing him to a max deal, it completely screwed that team up for about a decade. Since they were over the cap, they were limited on deals they could make. This forced them to become desperate and go for some really shaky deals which plummeted the team into the shitter. The only thing that turned that around, IMO, was D'Antoni. By getting him as coach, they brought in a guy that many players like to play for. That broke the cycle. I don't want to see the Blazers go through that cycle, a cycle that was over a decade long for the Knicks.

The Knicks had some really crappy management that made some really awful decisions. The Blazers got lucky that it looks like Mathews is going to be able to fill in pretty well for Brandon and they still have good talent/contracts available to make some moves that will help the team. I don't think it's a case of doom and gloom, but that Cho needs to make really smart choices if the team is to avoid backsliding.

If Roy medically retires what does that do for us? Brandon has a huge ego and I think it would be easier for him to retire and blame this condition than to be a shell of himself on another team where he's not the man!

I just don't see him being a third option for a team like the Twolves......
