Portlands front court

We are going to need to find a couple of power forwards or a power forward and a center anyway. We can give small minutes to Skal but I doubt he plays more than 15 minutes per game. Collins should be a starting center/power forward really, getting significant minutes. I don’t trust Meyers to be playing more than 20 a night, and realistically Nurkic is probably not back until December and possibly not in good form for full season.

I would like us to use MLE on a big.

Well Collins says he prefers to play center. He will get his chance if we do not land Kanter. I do share your concern though. 9 months for for Nurk is around Christmas. Not sure how these injuries conservatively take to heal.

Right now that leaves Collins for 28, Meyers for 20 minutes at center
Skal and 2 smaller players in Harkless and Jake at PF.

So yeah the MLE needs to be a big

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat????????????????????

Is this like when you said you'd never doubt Dame again and then doubted him the next game?
Huh what? I said that Dame had a monster series against OKC and that he belongs in the same category like the big NBA Superstars. I didnt say that i would never doubt him. And let's be honest, against Denver Dame was average and bad against Golden State. Even a guy like Dame shouldn't be immune against criticism here on S2.

If we can get Hood for the MLE I would go there first, second if we can get a Danny Green type, he probably gets way more money though. A productive wing is so hard to get.

If not then I'd give Kanter the MLE, he was a great fit and could hold down the middle while Nurk recovers.

If none of the above are available I'd proably target best bargain bin wing we can get for MLE, roll the dice and hope it works. There are competent vet minimum centers that could fill in for the third string or missed game if need be. Plus how well Lopez/Plumlee/Ed Davis/Nurk/Kanter/Collins look playing with DameCJ. I think center is very easy for us to get solid production.

All our problems have been with lack of quality forward play the last 5 years. Target this first.

I'd say thats Kanter IF he would except the taxpayer MLE of 5.7 mil, if not there are a lot of vet C's available this summer who we could likely get fairly cheaply on a 1 yr deal after the early orgy of spending, seems when this type of cap is available after the huge binge there can be some nice deals had

I'd take a chance on Patrick Patterson.

- Spacer
- Plays well off dynamic pnr guards which he really didn't have in OKC,
- Knows his role.
- Can play alongside both Zach and Nurk.
- Cheap

Health is a concern though.

Listen to Woj starting at the 5 minute mark.

Maybe I’m reading too much into it but when he specifically mentions finding a center in the last year of his deal, one guy jumps out immediately

Moe + Meyers works financially. Just sayin

Damn you just beat me!

You agree that he’s talking about Whiteside without actually mentioning his name? Seemed like he was talking about someone specific, but had to phrase it as a hypothetical. Idk, I’m high.

Oh no I just meant you beat me to it with the video..

I’m looking at centers that expire after next season and I’m not joking, Whiteside is the only one that makes any sort of sense.

I don’t think we would use our expiring contracts on a stop gap C in the last year of his deal.

I’m just gonna throw this out there as I know it’s very unlikely, but if we opened up the full MLE... toss a one year offer at Cousins. Maybe he takes another one year deal to rebuild his value and what better place than Portland with his boy Dame.

I would probably cap Aminu (as a backup ) at around the tax mid level figure ($5.7M.) Lets round that to $6M. Anything more and Id probably look elsewhere. Honestly though, I’m not sure they even want him as a backup, nor do I get the sense that Collins is going to be the power forward next year. I think it’s more likely he starts at center with Leonard and someone like KOQ as depth. We got owned by power forwards in the playoffs. I think that’ll be Neil’s focus, while Zach plays his natural position.
I'm kind of done with Aminu, Mo, (Turner).

One down, two to go.

It's a buyer's free agent market. Blazers should be able to sign a good fit on a team-friendly deal.

I wonder if the Kings would do a swap of Moe and a pick for Bjelica. They have Bagley and Giles and might chase Horford or someone like Vucevic.
If the Kings are smart, they'll avoid doing business with Olshey.

Oh, wait...nevermind.

I said that that 3 months ago and the whole forum said no, but now, it could be a realistic scenario

Yeah the demand for centers ain’t great and why would a team give Cousins a big contract over guys like Horford, Vuc, Valenciunas, or even Brook? He doesn’t make sense for a rebuilding team. But then again, it only takes one dumb team. Knicks, Lakers, the usual.

I haven't checked the math exactly yet but what about a trade of Harkless and Leonard for one of:

Mozgov
Biyombo
Mahinmi
Tristan Thompson

Would any of those teams do that straight up if it worked? I think most of those guys the difference in money we save would be enough to open up the Full-MLE.

Say we traded Leonard and Harkless for Biyombo. It says it works on TradeNBA checker. It would save us $5.8 million next year easily opening up the Full-MLE. Now that we have Bazemore is that worth it?

At the deadline we could possibly combine Biyombo and Bazemore to get up to $35 million in expiring money going out too for trades.
