Maybe I’m reading too much into it but when he specifically mentions finding a center in the last year of his deal, one guy jumps out immediately

Moe + Meyers works financially. Just sayin

I think Miami would do that deal. Makes sense for both teams.

I’m just gonna throw this out there as I know it’s very unlikely, but if we opened up the full MLE... toss a one year offer at Cousins. Maybe he takes another one year deal to rebuild his value and what better place than Portland with his boy Dame.

Shocking myself I think I'd actually prefer Kanter to Cousins. He's not worried about his touches, getting a max deal, going to the bench if Nurk is healthy. Plus all those injuries. I just don't see the upside, especially with our backcourt construction. We don't need high scoring offense with shitty D from our centers.

I'm kind of done with Aminu, Mo, (Turner).

One down, two to go.

It's a buyer's free agent market. Blazers should be able to sign a good fit on a team-friendly deal.
Yeah I'm similar. However if we trade away Harkless I'd be much more interested in bringing Aminu back. One of them is useful, but playing them both is a show we've seen enough of.

In that case, if Mo could stay healthy I'd rather keep Mo and let Aminu go. Also, with so many free agents available, I'm doubting there's a team that would rather lose an asset to acquire Mo than simply add someone from the scrap heap. Like Aminu, haha.

If we were able to dump Harkless into someone’s cap space, I don’t think we’d ask for anything in return, so it’d essentially be like signing a FA. The acquiring team would also get his bird rights, so it’d be a relatively low risk move.

Serge Ibaka if Kawhi leaves.

i like mo and aminu as blazers, i just dont like them as our starters. especially aminu.

moe had glimpses of amazeballs, but it never really amounted to anything unfortunately.

I definitely want Kanter if we can get him on a reasonable deal. He's familiar with the team and he likes it here.
If not...Ed Davis would be easy to plug in again..and not expensive...I think Enes will find a way to stick around though

As much as people like to fantasize about Leonard being gone, I'd bet money that after his finish last season that Olshey wants to keep him on for at least one more year, especially with Nurk out. Big men take time to develop, and the Blazers have a lot of capitol invested in Leonard. I don't think they are quite ready to dump him.

Looking at that list of centers, Kanter should get paid. The only ones in his age/skill bracket that should get paid similarly/more are Vuc and Jonas. Horford will get paid as well. The rest are either in the latter stage of their career and/or not as good.

The drop off from Kanter to someone on that list who makes the minimum is not huge, especially if the team isn't sure Kanter will fit with them as well as he did with Portland.

If the blazers are actually looking to replace Aminu in the starting lineup, it makes little sense giving him anything more than maybe the equivalent of the tax MLE. Pretty sure he’ll get more than that on the open market. Sure, they could theoretically dump salary later to dip under the tax, but I can’t see them justifying such a move unless they were out of contention. Aminu is probably gone imo.

It's the most Portland can offer prior to July 1st.
That's not true and I'm still not following. You mean based on his caphold? Why does that mean anything? We can give him any contract we damn well please. There is no eligibility concept.

You're missing the word "prior". After July 1st we can offer a max if we want.

I like Kanter a lot. I want him back on this team and think he will be back. Like you, I think he should be near the top of this group, but I don't think that's close to a universal perception ... which I think benefits the Blazers.

Horford's getting paid, and so in Vucevic and probably Boogie. Brook Lopez, WCS, Greg Monroe ... all probably seen as on par with Enes. And then you have guys like Looney and JaVale McGee who could be more attractive to certain teams just based on things like youth or athleticism.

I disagree, Kanter is a lot better than a minimum guy. He’s probably one of the five most efficient low post scorers/rebounders in the league, and is only 26 years old so he should fit multiple timelines. I would be shocked if he got anything less than double digits (per) as a lot of the teams with significant cap space this summer could/should be in the market for centers. Dallas, Boston, Lakers, Sacramento, Clippers just off the top.

What that doesn't take into consideration is how high Kanter or a center would be for the teams with all that cap space. Lakers and Dallas probably looking to make a bigger splash in free agency, which would consume much of their cap space in the process. Clippers might be in a similar boat. Possibly same for Boston, which also has to factor in a potential playoff series in Toronto where Enes might not be able to play. And is getting a big deal from Sacramento really that valuable?

So even if we have bird rights, we have to wait for July 1?

I might be wrong about this, but I'll give it a shot:

right now, Aminu is under contract so any new contract would fall under the restrictions for an extension. The limits for the 1st year salary of the extension would be either 120% of his current salary, or 120% of the average salary. I think the average salary is higher right now than Aminu's 7M. Might be close to the MLE

after July 1, Aminu is no longer under contract so full-Bird rights apply and he's be eligible for 30% of the cap

Unless they trade him for another big, so do I.
