Porzingis

So everyone had just spent the last month convincing everyone else we have the assets to get Paul George... how exactly do we not have the assets to get Porzingas?

George is a one-year rental and then gone. Porzingis has three years of team control and isn't guaranteed to bolt even then. The value of the two players in trade is massively, massively different.

Because George has said he wants out, and becomes a UFA next summer, whereas Porzingis still has two more years left on his roookie deal, and then is an RFA after that. Team control over a player for 3-7 years massively trumps team control over 1, so Porzingis' trade value is significantly higher than George's.
Right okay makes sense I'm getting way too excited for no reason because we know Portland won't do anything, except maybe extend Meyers Leonard and start him

There is almost NO WAY I want 'Melo but if it took him to do the Porzingis deal, I'd do it if we could ship out some of out bigger contracts on younger players.

Crabbe, Turner and 2 first round picks for Porzingis and 'Melo. That isn't great return for New York but the cost of unloading Carmelo's contract and starting over with picks and younger players.

KP is prolly in the top 10 among all players for overall trade value when you consider talent, age, and contract situation.

PG is up there talent wise, but the rental fear associated with him brings his value wayyyyyyy down. Pacers can maybe expect $0.25 on the dollar.

Boston shoulda waited to trade #1. I'd take KP over Fultz/Jackson/Tatum/etc for that team.
Boston still has #3 and a boat load of assets and future picks as well, can't see them having a problem putting together a package

Here's the thing; if Butler is pushing for Cleveland and Boston pursues Porzingis (as they should) it could leave Portland in a pretty good position to land George.

So, the ones who think crap will get us a star in return, would you be ok if a team offered up 3 mid to late 1st rounders and Allen Crabbe or Evan Turner for CJ or Damian?

For Evan Turner? Crabbe?? HELL FUCKING YES.

Now for CJ or Dame? If they were saying they were leaving in FA I'd trade BOTH of them rather than get nothing in return for them.

We should have Traded TT's punk ass...

So Yes... Get your mind right. Our picks are valuable in this draft.

Edit:

I think I may have read your post wrong.

Do you really only want George for a year?

If Boston goes after Porzingas now Hayward might be obtainable.....with everyone trying to sign George, Butler and Porzingas...he'd be a great pickup for the Blazers.

Good call.

He's a free agent.

You misread his question. He's asking if you'd do this deal:

Portland Gets: 3 mid-to-late first rounds, Crabbe OR Turner
Portland Trades: McCollum OR Lillard

Obviously, assuming Crabbe/Turner were on other teams and could be traded to Portland. He's basically asking if you'd trade one of Portland's stars for three mid-to-late first rounders and roster garbage, as people often suggest Portland use to get other teams' best players.

Because trying to win next year is better than the 1:1000 chance that one of our picks turns into Giannis (for example). Our window closes when Lillard's contract ends. And then we're back to a rebuild

If Golden State didn't exist then I may see your point. Problem is they do, so this seems foolish to me instead of trying to find a gem.

Porzingis is under team control for three years and hasn't said he's only going to re-sign with a single team in the league. New York can get a monster return for him, Portland doesn't remotely have assets sufficient to get him. Three okay draft picks and roster garbage won't get it done.

I don't think they do this, even with the 3 picks thrown in:

But they'd have to consider this. with the 3 picks:

I wouldn't say "not remotely"
