Gordon is 24 and his contract is ok. He is not a bad get. He just shouldn't be our top target.

Marks: ‘It would be difficult for the Blazers to part with Whiteside’

ESPN’s Bobby Marks places the spotlight on Hassan Whiteside and Kent Bazemore in the lead up to the trade deadline.

It would be difficult for the Blazers to part with Whiteside in a trade. He is on a $27.1 million contract, but he’s looking much more like the player who had a career year in 2015-16, making him a reliable insurance policy while Jusuf Nurkic continues his injury rehab. Holding on to Whiteside despite his expiring deal would give Portland the option to sign him as a free agent (he has Bird rights) or use him as an asset in the offseason in a sign-and-trade.

Bazemore has struggled to shoot the ball well in Portland. Could his $19.1 million contract and a lottery-protected first-rounder be enough for a player such as Danilo Gallinari? Although Carmelo Anthony has filled in admirably at power forward, Gallinari would give Portland even more options. He would also come with Bird rights in the offseason.

That’s pretty much where I’m at. Keep Whiteside, dump Bazemore and a pick.

Whoa. Is Minny starting to throw in a towel?

Now Minny has Crabbe/Layman/Napier/and Volneh on their roster with Vanterpool.

But this is some idea of the kinda trades we'll see with expiring contracts for other expiring ones most likely.

Minny only saves like $1 million in this deal. We definitely could have gotten in on this one with Bazemore. Tbh I think we would be a better team starting Dame/CJ/Teague than Dame/CJ/Baze.

I think they're gearing up for a D'Angelo Russel trade.

This would actually make a trade for Russell more difficult because they can't combine Crabbe's contract with other players. It's still possible but Teague's expiring deal made it easier and could combine with others.

The only thing I can think of is they needed a roster spot or they are taking back more money in another deal and don't want to go over the tax?

Otherwise it's a complete head scratcher for Minny.

They currently have Napier as their only PG.

I know, they can still make a trade for Russell, they can still trade Crabbe again, they just can't combine him. Weird trade, they obviously have to make another move.

Would you give up Simons for Covington

Simons will never be a PG, so this seems like a bad fit.

Blazers are in a funny position with Simons. He has shown enough to tease them with his potential and they really need that potential to work out. OTOH, I question how much value he has to other teams that aren't invested in him. My gut is that if he is given consistent, significant PT over the rest of the season his trade value will increase.

Naturally, there is always the risk he will flop - but unless his current trade value is substantial, it seems to me it is worth it for the Blazers to be the team taking that risk.

Don't trade Ant unless it's for a bonafide star level player. I am growing an irrational level of fandom for this kid I know, but I see more to him than meets the eye right now.

And I want a pony. :bgrin:

All jocularity aside, I assume that is Dame's voice coming out of his agent's mouth. Putting a little heat on the front office?
Nah, Nate Jones acts on his own or he has historically before. Dame doesn't use him as a mouthpiece-- he's never done anything like that, why would he start now? Especially when he has the ear of Neil/Jody whenever he wants, he doesn't need to be slick with his opinions.

Jones has been super critical of Whiteside all year fwiw.

* Don't trade Sebastian Telfaire unless it's for a bonafide star level player

* Don't trade Martell Webster unless it's for a bonafide star level player

* Don't trade Sergio Rodriguez unless it's for a bonafide star level player

* Don't trade Rudy Fernandez unless it's for a bonafide star level player

* Don't trade Allen Crabbe unless it's for a bonafide star level player

* Don't trade CJ McCollum unless it's for a bonafide star level player (it was even more)

* Don't trade Zach Collins unless it's for a bonafide star level player

* Don't trade Anfernee Simons unless it's for a bonafide star level player

the Blazers have a history of betting heavy on potential while real-world value depreciates. Maybe they'll finally get one right

No to giving up assets to anyone on a one year deal! This includes Marcus Morris and Gallo. It's going to take a lot more than just Bazemore to get those types. I'd rather give up similar assets for players like Rose and Snell who would be on the team for sure next year or tradeable in the off season.

Did you just equate Ant to Telfair? I'm gonna bump this in three years.
