I think comparing Ant to Telfair and Sergio is more laughable than saying I wouldn't trade him for a bonafide star.
Jesus. Is it that big of a deal to you? Have at it I guess. Haha

Did you just equate Ant to Telfair? I'm gonna bump this in three years.

nope...what I obviously did was say that Portland has a history of significantly overrating the potential of their 1st and 2nd year players. That's probably not just a Portland failing either. To say that Portland should not trade Ant unless it's for a "bonafide star" sure seems extreme, but then I don't rate CJ or players of his level as stars. I think the floor of NBA star right now is around the Devin Booker/Jayson Tatum/Paskal Siakam level, and if Portland refused to trade Ant for one of those, that would be massive mismanagement

Yes, because saying that about Simons is the same as saying it about Sergio/Telfair/Martell according to you.

Got it.

I get what you're trying to do or say, but this over-exaggeration is unnecessary.

what does it matter what the level of the overrated potential is?

if they are overrating Sergio or Telfair or Rudy or Martell as solid starting level, or overrating Simons as star level, it's still overrating value while the gap between potential and talent equalizes. It's the same thing. And I want to make it clear, I don't know what the level of potential Simons has. Just that I've heard this stuff many times before.

quit trying to distort what I say and make it into a straw man argument. You were the first to go there by saying that Simons was going to be a bonafide star.....get it? you aren't the only one who can distort what the other is saying

There's no downside to taking on a bad two-year contract if we can't land something for Whiteside/Bazemore this season if we can still use the Full MLE.

The upside is we have many more potential trade options on draft day and during next season.

Pretty simple to me.

Honestly I’d give up a lottery protected first on top of taking on Dieng for Covington. He’d be a great fit don’t feel like developing another combo guard anyway.

Oh for sure, 100%. That would improve our team both this year and next year.

The question is what are other teams offering? If Covington gets traded for an expiring and a pick I'm going to be heated.

Pretty sure both he and Dieng are headed to GS for Russell.

Last time I was genuinely pissed at an in season trade was the whole Oubre fiasco. Wanted him on Portland and felt like the suns got him for a lot less than his worth. If Covington gets traded for an expiring and a non lottery pick imma be pissed again.

If Minny can pull that off, I couldn't hold it against them. Russell is definitely a better return than Whiteside and a pick.

I'm guessing Minnesota would have to include at least 2 1st round picks in that deal too. GS has two problems though as they don't have a lot of cushion between the hard cap and don't have an open roster spot. So either way maybe we can pick up some pieces out of that deal. Or would GS prefer an expiring and 3 1sts total? It sucks that Covington would be such a perfect fit for them next year when they're healthy.

golden state could theoretically just throw in a minimum contract into the deal to make it work.

Ya it's pretty easy to get around that. The difference between Russell and Ding + Roco is only like 150k

We could help them by taking Burke off their hands as that would definitely help this year. He would be this years Rodney Hood acquisition.

Personally I don’t think Covington is enough to land Russell, especially not with Diengs contract also added. Russell is a legit starting point guard, young, and under control. If I were Golden State I’d also want Culver, but that’d also complicate matching salaries. If it were as easy as Cov/Dieng/Russell it would’ve happened already.

Portlands theoretical ability to take on Dieng would give them an advantage over some of the teams connected to Covington, like Dallas for example.

It intention for Olshey would like to trade or Whiteside or both. But here the problem I think there not much takers for either guy. But probably less for Bazemore then Whiteside. My prediction is either one will traded. The most likely it will be something small like Mario or Trent for someone.

I wonder if the warriors would consider trading Draymond. Baze, pick(s) for Draymond and one of Burks/Robinson would technically work.

I was trying to make a deal work where GS got Bazemore, Culver, and Okogie plus picks from both teams, Portland would get Covington, Dieng, and whatever contract from GS needed to make it work that fits into the Hood DPE and Minnesota would get Russell and filler. Something like this:

Obviously the filler guys can be changed around.

I think Dieng would be a decent starting 5 for the Warriors so they should be fine getting him and not include any other team.

Russell,Looney,Robinson
For
Covington,Dieng,Culver(maybe Culver is too much so can be Okogie),2 1st round picks

Curry,Klay, Covington,Draymond,Dieng

Wow what a D this team would play

Yeah, I agree although I know they value Looney a lot. I was thinking more in terms of them having Curry, Thompson, and Green on the books for over $100 million next year that having a bunch of 1sts would be a way of filling out their lineup with cheap talent.

How about a three way

Dedmon and Covington to Portland.

Bogdanovic to Minnesota.

Whiteside to Sacramento.

Could also throw a pick at Minny or Sac, whatever.

How about Bogdanovic and Dedmon for Bazemore and protected pick... Bogdanovic has big cajonas and is entertaining his prime... Dedmon is a good stop gap center that can hit 3’s...

I think Sacramento is a team that would actually be interested in Whiteside. I’d give up a pick for Bogdanovic though, just not sure the kings would be too interested in it.

I love Bogdanovic... him and Oubre would be my top targets as SF of present and future

I think the pistons are a team to watch with regards to Portland. Olshey and Arn Tellem have a long history together. They’re in a position to sell and have pieces that should interest the blazers; Morris, Snell, Rose, etc. Portland meanwhile has expirings, picks, and possibly some younger players that should interest them. Maybe they line up on something.
