I like how we STILL don’t have another center on the roster.

maybe the Blazer front office has essentially given up on this season and is working a subtle tank job. If so, they need to send a memo to Stotts; Dame played 42 minutes last night....yeeeeeh

What's funny is I had all but jumped off the trade for Griffin train, but this actually makes me want to trade for him, ha ha. Especially if we don't have to throw in a single asset. Heck, Detroit might even need to throw in something to get a team to take him.

The Blazers can also add our 2020 2nd round pick since it won't be 56-60, but that trade machine doesn't let me add it. That will probably be a pick in the lower half of the 2nd round. I'd probably still do it even if we had to throw in a lottery protected 1st (maybe 2021?). With Griffin out we'd for sure miss the playoffs and get a lottery pick.

Next year:

Guards: Dame, CJ, Rose, Simons

Wings: Covington, Hood?, Little, Hezonja?

Bigs: Nurk, Griffin, Collins, Skal?

Draft BPA, sign a wing with the MLE, and add maybe a cheap vet min big for depth. Super risky for sure but that's a pretty talented team IF healthy plus if they hit on the lottery pick (Obi Toppin?) and pick up a serviceable wing (Harkless? Marvin Williams? E'Twaun Moore? CJ Miles? Crowder? Glenn Robinson?) in free agency that team could be super good. The problem is it would be just as likely that it would turn out like this year and the tax would be super high!

Are there people that think Kuzma is better than Bogdanovic? Clearly the Kings do according to this tweet

It’s not necessarily that Sacramento thinks Kuzma is better, they just might not want to pay Bogdanovic.

They both have flaws but I'd take Bogdanovic over Kuzma if I had to pick one. Kuzma is a bad shooter, doesn't play defense, is not a good rebounder, and doesn't pass yet people think he's a star. I don't get it other than him playing in LA?

I understand that, but Stein says for starters. If they include more assets for Kuzma it is crazy. Just let Bogdan walk.

May as well make this the free agency thread.

Anyone down for a little demarcus cousins this summer?

No, but just so I'm clear you don't want to trade Whiteside but also want to sign Cousins this summer?

If Whiteside doesn’t wanna be a backup or gets a better deal elsewhere, yeah.

At some point Neil will have to decide between CJ and Simons... my biggest fear is he will keep CJ. I understand Simons will be under contract for a few more years, but at some point one of them will have to be traded to get anything of value in a trade if they want to make a contender during the Dame era.

Who should say yes, and who should say no?

TOR Gets: Demar Derozan, Dwight Powell
DAL Gets: LaMarcus Aldridge
SAS Gets: Hassan Whiteside, Courtney Lee, Patrick McCaw, 2020 TOR 1st, 2022 TOR 1st, 2026 DAL 1st, 2020 GSW 2nd (via DAL), 2022 POR 2nd
POR Gets: Serge Ibaka, Stanley Johnson

TOR Gets: Demar Derozan, Dwight Powell
TOR Sends: Serge Ibaka, 2020 & 2022 1st Round Picks, Filler
-- Toronto brings back Derozan and brings in Canadian Dwight Powell to replace Ibaka in the frontcourt. Giving up two 1sts to make this happen is worth it.

DAL Sends: Dwight Powell, Courtney Lee, 2020 GSW 2nd, 2026 DAL 1st
DAL Gets: LaMarcus Aldridge
-- Dallas brings LMA home, pairing him with Porzingis in the frontcourt to really go for it this season. He'd be a good fit with Doncic in the PnR/Pick n Pop.

SAS Sends: Demar Derozan, LaMarcus Aldridge
SAS Gets: Expiring contracts (buyout), 2020 TOR 1st, 2022 TOR 1st, 2026 DAL 1st, 2020 GSW 2nd, 2022 POR 2nd
-- SAS hits the rebuild button, getting back expirings, 3 future firsts, and an early 2020 2nd.

POR Sends: Hassan Whiteside, 2022 2nd Round Pick
POR Gets: Serge Ibaka, Filler
-- Portland acquires Ibaka for Whiteside & a 2nd. Ibaka is a better fit since he can play C, but also PF next to Nurk. Ibaka would likely be a SAS buyout candidate so getting a 2nd for him makes sense.

Interesting... I think Portland should get a little more out of that, how many years does Ibaka have on his contract?

If we did this, maybe follow up with this? Who should say yes, and who should say no for this one?

DEN Gets: Kevin Love, Best of 2021 POR/DEN 1sts (Top 12 Protected)
CLE Gets: Kent Bazemore, Mason Plumlee, Malik Beasley
POR Gets: Will Barton, Worst of 2021 POR/DEN 1sts (Top 12 Protected)

DEN Gets: Kevin Love, Right to Swap 2021 1sts w/ POR
DEN Sends: Will Barton, Mason Plumlee, Malik Beasley
-- Denver gets Love to create a monster 3-man frontcourt with Jokic and Millsap. They trade Barton and clear the way for MPJ to start. Might need to make a follow-up move for depth reasons.
Denver Rotation:
Murray / Morris
Harris / Murray
MPJ / Craig
Millsap / Love
Jokic / Love

CLE Gets: Expirings (buyout), Malik Beasley
CLE Sends: Kevin Love
-- Getting expirings and a prospect like Beasley is probably the best Cleveland could get for Love.

POR Gets: Will Barton
POR Sends: Kent Bazemore, Gives DEN the right to swap 2021 1sts
-- Portland takes a gamble that they'll improve in 2021, and bring back Will Barton at SF cashing in on Bazemore's expiring. They also save apx. $7M.

If we did that and brought back Ibaka and Skal, this could be our rotation next year:
Lillard (36) / Simons (12)
McCollum (35) / Simons (8) / Hood (5)
Barton (28) / Hood (20)
Collins (27) / Skal (15) / Ibaka (6)
Nurkic (27) / Ibaka (21)

Lillard - 36min
McCollum - 25min
Collins, Nurkic, Ibaka - 27min
Hood - 25min
Simons - 20min
Skal - 15min

Just one, but he makes a lot more sense fit-wise long-term. So if Portland can't cash in on Whiteside, swapping him out for Ibaka could make sense.

That deals fun because I think it makes sense for every team, and it sends Derozan home, Powell (a Canadian) to Toronto, and sends Aldridge home as well.

I like your other one a lot better from Portlands perspective.

What? You don't like this one? Barton is an upgrade over Bazemore, and we don't even give up a 1st, just possibly (maybe not) trade it down a few spots.

I agree he’s better than Baze but Im not a big fan of the people’s champ. Think Id rather have Serge.

Warriors just cut Chriss, get that man in here on a ten day, he can rebound and defend.

I'm not sure if I would survive a Chriss + Whiteside combo. That's just overkill, much like the proposed Dame+CJ+Wiggins+Melo combination.

He's been on 4 different teams now, and each one has let him go...
When I have seen him play, I have never been impressed. He gets a highlight here & there, but overall I don't think he's skilled enough to make it in the NBA.

I think Denver says no. Love doesn't seem a good fit next to Jokic. I think their plan is to promote Grant to starting PF next year. He is shooting well and is good off the ball. They also love Barton.

he’s only 22 and was making real progress this year. Releasing him was financial as the warriors are up against the hard cap and he was the only non guaranteed contract. I don’t see the downside in giving him a look. Portland is desperate.

But they cut him so that they could sign Lee.... If he was 'making real progress' and had the potential to be any sort of difference maker, he would not have been the one to be cut.

he was the only one on the team with a non guaranteed contract. It’s pretty simple.

As for the progress, he set career highs in PER, TS %, Rebound %, Block %, ASSIST %, DBPM, and BPM. If that isn’t real progress, I don’t know what is.

I don't know if he will stick in the NBA or not, but it's certainly not going to make the Blazers worse to see what he can do. Who knows maybe he fits really well and becomes somewhat of another cast off that works well for Portland. Not sure what they lose by trying.
