@crandc, As a scientist/biologist? would you mind sharing what you think about what ingredients good and bad that are in our food. Appreciate your opinion. Gracias

Corn syrup is one of the worst ingredients we have in food other than transfats, artificial flavors, dyes and salt. The amount of salt and sugar in processed foods is really bad for health.

Trump will nominate Mike Lindell as Secretary of Pillows.

You guys think Trump and his minions are going to get a lot of things done over the next 4 years .... errrrrr dozen years if the fear mongers are correct since he's never going to give up power and will become our overlord and dictator. Seems like it will be hard to do a lot of this stuff from the golf course where he will spend a ton of his time. My guess is enough of the members of congress on the right will block a lot of the insanely stupid stuff he wants to do since they know he can't run again. He will install a lot of these public figures into positions and then those people will piss him off and he'll bring in new public names to take over, much like with Elon. Not nearly as much will happen as most people predict and like it was for the majority of his first term, he loves the thought of being in power much more than he actually likes to govern and be President. It will be a shit show and create a ton of face slapping moments but in the end the country will survive, we will continue to move forward and a democrat will probably be elected to the highest office in 2028.

It's the fact he installed yes men into the highest ranks is what makes all of it unfortunately feasible.

Gone are the ones who pushed against him. They were "properly vetted for loyalty" so I don't see how it changes now.

His first term was the JV squad.

I can't agree with you on this just because of the installations he's put in.

We. Are. Fucked.

More likely so

Hard in a nutshell. We tend to think of "natural" as good but plenty of "natural" things are harmful.

It's best to eat real food. Minimally processed, cooked is fine but avoid highly processed meats, and yes, refined sugars. Eat beans, fish, poultry rather than protein drinks. Eat beets, not beet pills. Whole grains rather than fortified. OTOH fortified milk, which is standard, is fine if you can tolerate lactose. No I don't always practice. I bake.

Mark Bittman, author of Food Matters, summed it up as: eat food, mostly plants, in moderation.
He added if your grandmother wouldn't recognize it as food you probably shouldn't eat it. My grandmother didn't eat bok choy but she would recognize it, probably ask in Yiddish, so, what kind of cabbage is that? Because although it is unfamiliar her nose would have told her cabbage.

Finally, if you really like Ben and Jerry's or chocolate cheesecake, enjoy it on special occasions. Don't deprive yourself to the point of misery. Food should be joyful.

A bunch of farmers who voted for Trump are going to be really pissed off about that one.

Not to mention the people whose prices of food are going to skyrocket.

I'm not necessarily opposed to banning glyphosate, but there are a whole host of changes that have to happen to produce the amount of food that we do without glyphosate. And I have no faith in the Trump administration to deal with any of those changes properly.

*Edit* This will raise the price and limit the availability of food while they are cutting Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)...

Good lord. You might be on to something. Let's poison ourselves and our children so corn/oats can be how many cents less per pound? Even if you omit the cost in terms of sheer health, do you think we're close to breaking even in terms of the cost of health care? We can spend billions on war and other crap, we can grow organic food at no extra cost to the consumer. Trump also appointed a regenerative farming expert to the department of agriculture.

That was a lot of typing for no reason at all. Great job.

Kennedy pledged to stop all research into new drugs and infectious diseases. Anyone with ALS, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, cancer hoping for new treatment, guess you were too upset over price of eggs.

I was listening to Kilmeade a bit on the way to work today.

He and his guest seemed anti-RFK Jr., but, in the end, Kilmeade had to leave on a hopeful note for Trump, saying that we have a country where so many people aren't healthy because it's what's in the cheaper foods they're forced to eat, and that RFK will regulate that and we'll get healthier food out there and less healthy food off the shelves.

And I thought "You guys just announced a department to slice a third of federal spending and have been all about deregulating things, including making sure we have clean drinking water, but you're going to tout the anti-vax king as being the great regulator of nutrition, in the midst of what stands to be skyrocketing inflation and a dwindling supply of foreign product."

These people just say anything and hope the majority of the people turn off their brains and don't catch them.

I have foreseen it.

Two parts have already happened. There has already been stuff out there saying the GOP won't approve him.

Was it you who said Trump might change his mind and nominate someone else lol. Could happen too.

He can't take back his resignation right?

He can't take back his resignation right?

I highly doubt you can.

My fear is, he was given assurances he would get it. Then again, it's possible he felt he had to leave no matter what because of the damning report. So that gives me hope it's not assurances.

But my god it'd be a victory if he was left out to dry. within these 4 years of future hell we are about to embark on... we need as many small victories as we can get.

So, they are going to deport millions of immigrants on day one?

And, in doing so, wipe out the building industry, agriculture ... again, law of unintended consequences.

Combine not having people to fill jobs, not filling jobs to secure the border, killing our exports and taxing our own people through tariffs, Trump will do a great job of crashing the economy and I don't think he's going to be able to get away with putting that on trans athletes.

I'm big in the market.

The market was doing super under Biden but soared into the atmosphere when Trump won. I believe that was a reflection on investors thinking regulations were going to be relaxed, leaving more money to flow into businesses.

Then Trump started to nominate his cabinet and things began to cool.

Today it took a huge dive. Huge.

Now, it could have been a correction, but I've heard things about concern from people in the market about these nominees and that it apparently means he's serious about everything he said like tariffs.

We're talking inflation growing to six times what it would be under Biden and almost certainly a recession, the one Biden avoided.

The market hates that stuff.

Trump's people hate that stuff.

No one is arguing against healthy food, fresh air, exercise. Many poor people live in food deserts where there are no full service markets or farmers markets. Just corner stores selling junk. And no sidewalks or safe places to exercise. Working two jobs. Easy for a very privileged man to say eat better. Getting additives out of food, which he won't do, doesn't solve problems.
And healthy eating is not a substitute for vaccines.
