You mean they can't shoot themselves in the foot again? Crabbe (like Gary) was a choice. They have no choice with Powell. At a trade deadline where the best player available was Aaron fuckin' Gordon (and I like Gordon fine as a player), I think Olshey did pretty well (and I'm not a particularly big fan of Olshey as a GM). He traded away a one-dimensional player and a busted player for a good two-way player. Portland is better and Powell is actually worth a large-ish extension, unlike Trent. I don't know if Portland actually will offer one, but it's still a better situation. Portland is now at no risk of getting Crabbed again.
We do have his bird rights but he could still walk for nothing. If we weren't wanting to pay Gary why would we pay Powell. Also unlike Gary, Powell will have the opportunity to take less money to start elsewhere.Do we get his bird rights? If not, we just gave up a RFA whose future we controlled for a UFA who could walk for nothing in return

Everyone says we could offer more, so we go Hood, Little and a pick. Easy to look at it the same way.We will have to agree to disagree. The #5 guy in your starting lineup who is your #6 scorer, a rookie who isn't playing, and a protected 1st round pick 4 years from now....just doesn't seem like a lot.
I'm not sure the Denver package was a lot for Gordon, but I also don't think the Blazers could necessarily offer something better. I'd imagine the upside, positional flexibility, and four years of Hampton cost control was more appealing than Gary or Little. We will have to agree to disagree. And no way I would have given up Nas and a pick for Gordon.Everyone says we could offer more, so we go Hood, Little and a pick. Easy to look at it the same way.
So we trade our 9th guy in the rotation who looks awful, a 2nd year player, not even a rookie, who isn't playing much, and a pick that you're unsure when it conveys.
That's fair... I just don't know if we're going to want to be spending 95M next season on a back court with no one over 6'4".Powell is a better player.
Nas will definitely get more minutes nowView attachment 37760
ESPN's projection of 5+ wins is interesting. Probably has to do with getting Hood out.
Maybe this opens up room for Nas in the regular rotation.

Then sign Powell to a $18M contract & trade CJ...That's fair... I just don't know if we're going to want to be spending 95M next season on a back court with no one over 6'4".
Mostly agree.
My only issue is the best player on the market was Vooch... Chicago made some great moves today.
I think NO is hoping moving Hood has an ancellery effect... Stotts was playing Hood at backup PG a bit. Now the only option will be Ant.Sad that it took Olshey moving Hood for Stotts to have to play Nas....instead of so many minutes for Hood when he had the option of both.

I thought any Gordon trade would've required Hood + [Simons AND Nas] (Hood + Trent wouldn't have have worked under the cap), or alternatively Hood/Simons/Zach if staying under the tax really was a driver. To say nothing of picks, which we would've had to do a trade to guarantee this year's with HOU before sending any more out.
Yes, in a vacuum I think Gordon for all of our young wings may have been a decent deal and helped this year. Gordon as the 3rd or 4th best guy on a team is a good team. But if it ended up being Norman's next 3 months for Hood and Trent's (we weren't matching his RFA), then...ok, I guess?
[semi-joking, but it makes CJ-for-Simmons more palatable now]
(and is this the place where I ask why an armchair forum poster can't be smarter at the NBA than a real-life GM?)
I believe Olshey does things like this to force Stotts hands.Sad that it took Olshey moving Hood for Stotts to have to play Nas....instead of so many minutes for Hood when he had the option of both.
