Trade Powell to Portland!

So in essence, trading Hood and Trent means they could much easier sign Nurk (not arguing they should over pay him, he's not proven he can stay healthy) AND Powell (not arguing that he's going to re-sign).

Trent and Hood alone could've accounted for 30 or more million next year. Trent+Hood+Nurk would be a bitter pill to swallow.

Now it might be that Nurk and Powell get 35 between them, but I'd rather have Nurk + Powell (potentially) at 35t than Nurk, Hood and Trent at 55.

about Powell's defense, some numbers over the last 3 seasons when he's had a bigger role

* 2018-19: Powell had a defensive rating that was two points worse than the team. He was 11th on the team in DBPM

* 2019-20: Powell had a defensive rating that was one point worse than the team. He was 10th on the team in DBPM

* this season: Powell has a defensive rating that 1s 2.3 points worse than the team. He is 9th on the team in DBPM

allowing that defensive stats can be real noisy, I'm still not seeing anything in those numbers showing Powell as a + defender. That isn't to say he's not, but for sure, if he was as good defensively as many are saying, those numbers should be a lot better

I'd be interested in people's rank of the following player's defense. Here's mine:
1) Powell
2) Dame
3) CJ
4) Trent

Powell
--Average Defense--
Trent
Lillard
McCollum

I think Powell is a bit above the line of average defense and Trent and the rest are clearly below it. Powell is no defensive stopper, but he's solid on that end.

I guess the philosophy is that you aren't improving the defense any time soon so we'll just try to outscore everybody.

I know that the trade was a net positive for this season but the fact that we didn't make bigger moves means that the management of this team isn't pushing for a chance at a championship this season. That makes me think about the fact that what I didn't want was to let Gary's value walk out the door at the end of this season, leaving us with nothing. Unfortunately this trade makes that a very real possibility and leaves us with no control over that.

Its possible there was no championship type moves to be had. I mean no one that changed teams is going to catapult a team into being elite.

I’m glad we dodged the Gordon bullet. He’s overrated and wouldn’t fit our system.

We could always waive Hood.

Do you think Powell will be cheaper than Trent? Trent has to improve a lot to get more money.

I don't think they can just waive Hood, since his contract was guaranteed for next year iirc.

And I think Trent would cost the Blazers more, since he's younger.

Hood's contract next yr was a TEAM option and not guaranteed

oh, well then who cares? They'd lose either player for nothing probably. Gives minutes to little. improves the defense, even if for a short time and realistically the team doesn't play defense anyways.

It’s a plain fact that if Paul was still alive there’s no way Stotts would still be here. He had no patience for mediocrity.
No Sorry.
Your idea of "Fact" seems a bit obscure. I suggest you look that word up.
It simply doesn't mean what you seem to think it means.
Also maybe you should practice a little tact and respect for those who have passed.

Please explain how I was disrespectful. Paul passed away. He’s gone. I was replying to a post saying that maybe Neil and Terry are still around because their bosses know more than we do. Paul hired them and there’s no way they’d still be around if he was still here.

idk about that. He didn’t fire Stotts after the pelicans series even though everyone thought he would/should. He listened to his star player, so evidently he did have patience for it.

Damn Rodney was an entirely different player. The movement is just completely different. His first step is completely gone.

Somehow Kevin Durant came back completely better with the same injury

Fuck. This is kind of sad.

One of the most fun parts about being a fan is seeing your own players develop. Trent was on a good trajectory, now he's gone.

Then when we keep them to long it’s “fuck we get to attached to our guy our asset is depreciating”

That was four seasons ago. That patience would have only extended so far.

the next season they went to the conference finals. Ain’t firing Stotts after that. Then last season was a weird year and they were banged up. If Nurk doesn’t get hurt they wouldn’t have played the lakers in the first round. And no one else beat them either. So when would he have fired Stotts?

I think Powell should be a starter. Yeah, he's "short"...but while wings can shoot over his head, can they shoot over his arms, when he has a 6'11'' wingspan?

PG: Lillard
SG: McCollum
SF: Powell
PF: Covington
C: Nurkic

I think that gets Portland's best five on the court, with three good defenders (granted, Nurkic's defense isn't ideal for containing pick-and-rolls) and plenty of shooting.
Well, SAC scored 141 last night starting Fox, Hield and Halliburton.

SAC is Olshey’s model for success?

three guard lineups are more common place now than ever. Toronto did it a bunch when they won the championship. We saw a bunch of it when we went to the conference finals with Curry sharing the court with Dame and CJ. It was the most effective grouping (along with Chief and Nurk) Curry was in that year btw, with a +18 net. And Powell is a much more dynamic scorer than him.

Paul was a smart guy. If people on this board can see that the team isn't really a contender and that our success in the playoffs two years ago was a fluke, I think Paul could see it too. Just because there seems to be this convenient injury excuse built into every season doesn't mean that the team at full health still isn't that good.
