Zach Lowe thought he would start in place of Jones. I don't think he will, but he will finish games. I watched a ton of highlights of him playing WITH both Lowry/Van Vleet and it looked sustainable. But Dame/CJ are nowhere near the defenders that those two guys are.

Not sure of the fit.

I don’t either, but I do think that we’re going to see plenty of the 3 guard lineup. It also means that there will always be at least 2 proven vet scoring guards on the court at all times. That’s a nice luxury to have.
 
The saying is always “defense wins championships” and that’s mostly true, but the best way to counter good defense is with shot makers that create their own shots. The more you have in the stable, the better your odds. There’s no defense in the world that can stop Dame, CJ, and Powell getting hot at the same time.

I think Terry realistically gets fired last summer if Paul was still here. Our defense was shit. Our offense was unimaginative. Nothing had really changed in six years. Another first round exit.

At the very least, I think after the playoff run we would have made a significant change to the team. It was obvious how good Dame is, but that we weren't on the same level as even an injured Golden State.

I want to believe that removing hood gives nas more minutes, but last nights game was without both Trent and hood, and nas played his usual low minutes. Isn’t melo just going to soak up any extra hood minutes? :(

With so many teams projected to be over the cap, a sign and trade with Powell is also a possibility. And that’s if they don’t wanna keep him. But we can worry about that later.
 
I'm with Canzano on wanting to know what Olsheys big picture plan is: "Trail Blazers general manager Neil Olshey may very well write a tell-all memoir one day. I hope he does. I’ll read every word, if only to learn whether or not the GM actually had a plan when it came to constructing the basketball operation for all those years."
I may be a damn fool but I keep thinking he does have a plan; which is to go all in next year. His moves and lack of moves this year make me think he is going for it next year. He hopes to have everyone healthy then. Hopes that Little will be a lot smarter by then and hopefully a more consistent shooter. I'm hoping that he plans on finally trading CJ for a taller difference maker and he now has Powell to take CJ's place. I'm hoping that he and owners, after staying under the tax line for a few years, will now go above it, to pay Powell and the big guy they trade for. Only time will tell I guess.

Watch for Gordon and Porter to emulate Joker and Nurk...they will have to choose again. Their contracts are up same time so they have some time to evaluate.

Kudos to you for having the balls to admit publicly that you agree with Canzano.

Alas, I cannot. The answer is transparent - you said it. The plan is to get the team healthy. If the team is healthy, we're fantastic. Let me elaborate.

Best 3-guard lineup in the league, along with great defensive players. Let me list them:
Nurk
Collins
RoCo
DJJ
Little

If this team gels, we are a championship contender. However, it'll take time, and getting healthy isn't a given. But, saying there is no plan seems silly.

Notice I only agreed with him that I would like to know what the plan is. But i do hope that it is more than just get healthy. I guess you and I disagree on that.

Canzano is biased against the Blazers its not funny. He was the same way with The Ducks but when the team does well oh he jumps on board.
Plus he has a higher voice than his wife! Perfect for a whinner

He said for years and years that Mark Few was going to jump ship for the Ducks. I emailed him a couple times saying it just won’t happen. He finally stopped writing about it after a decade.

He’s a douchebag
 
I posted this in the other thread but I think it belongs here as well. This is what you are getting with Powell.

I think most of you are seriously underestimating Powell. I am a long term Raptor fan and I am devastated that we lost Powell. I would have gladly given up VanVleit before Powell. Here are a couple of things you need to know about him.

#1 - His nickname is playoff Powell because he is even better in the playoffs.
#2 - He is equally effective starting and coming off the bench. The 3 reasons he has not been a full time starter are.
A - Nick Nurse does not necessarily start his best 5. He values guys who come strong off the bench (Boucher, Ibaka, Powell)
B - He was in a 3 man rotation for starter with Lowry and VanVleit who have both been lights out as well the last few years.
C - He has had some bad luck in the past with injuries.
#3 - He is an amazing mentor with younger players. Many Raptors rookies have praised him for going over game film with them and checking up on them during the pandemic.
#4 - He is a guy who moves well without the ball (Something I think many Portland players are weak at)
#5 - He plays very good defense and can effectively defend several positions.
#6 - He is awesome on the break. Really runs the floor.
#7 - He is very professional and takes running the system seriously and does not overshoot the ball.
#8 - He is very powerful going to the hoop and dunks often in the half court.
#9 - Is extremely efficient with his shots. He knows what shots he is good at and rarely forces shots he is not good at.

The only thing preventing him from being elite is that he has no 'one on one' skills. He has no moves. He either strokes the open shot (can shoot with a guy in his face) or he explodes straight line to the hoop.

After watching videos of him, I agree with you. He s extremely good at getting open, either for an open corner three or coming around a screen either for a three or to continue moving to the basket. He'll probably be OK when playing with Lillard, but not very effective otherwise. I think they will have to pair him sometimes with a good passing big.

From what has been on some "insider" podcasts and the like, TOR knew (much like we did) that Powell was headed for a big raise. He was going to be UFA, though, with his player opt-out. At least with Trent, they have his Bird Rights and can match.

From what I've also heard, there was no way we were paying Trent market value, so getting Powell for the next 3 months is a nominal upgrade.

Who thinks that Powell will walk in free agency because he get's a good payday and the Blazers cant afford him?
