I find it interesting you seem to put a lot of stock into whether or not a kid plays on PP1, as if that is the end all be all decider. At the end of the day, both Kakko and Lafreniere have been given chances to play in the top 6. Kakko has yet to capitalize on his opportunities (and Kakko said so himself after last season). I am hopeful he will capitalize on his opportunity this season, as I do think it will be his last chance to prove it with the Rangers.
As I wrote a while back, to me the Kakko thing goes both ways. The organization no doubt has responsibility when a # 2 pick doesn't develop and come close to reaching their potential. But the player also has responsibility to step up and take advantage of the opportunities he is given (which Kakko has not). So, it goes both ways, and honestly if one is being fair, I think it is difficult to argue that.
To me Kakko needs to man up and play man hockey. He seems passive and soft when you watch him play. My best guess is his whole life he dominated with his size and talent prior to the NHL. When what worked for him his whole life didn't work for him in the NHL, I think it got to him mentally and killed his confidence. I am hopeful that he has matured and understands this is his last shot with the Rangers, and just goes out and plays. Be aggressive, shoot the puck whenever you can (he has a good shot), and drive to the net. If he plays with confidence and an edge, I think we'll see different results, as I truly believe the underlying talent is there with Kakko.
As for the organization overall, hard to argue they aren't a poorly run organization when it comes to building a team and actually winning. Dolan is a terrible owner, and Drury is in over his head as Pres/GM. My hopes aren't really high this season given they are worse now than when the season ended, and they weren't good enough to win before. The only shot is kids like Kakko, Othmann, Cuylle, and Jones really take big steps forward and surprise, then maybe they can be a legit contender. When you have one SC since 1940, you are not a well-run organization IMO.
